Anybody still surprised?
Well, Rep. Flake tried to get the Democrats to vote in favor of ethical behavior again, and again they voted him down. Via Instapundit:
House turns back call for PMA probe
The House on Thursday night turned back another call to investigate the PMA Group, a once-powerful lobbying firm whose offices were recently raided by the FBI and which has close ties to Pennsylvania Rep. John P. Murtha (D).
Twenty-one Democrats, including nine freshmen, voted to proceed with debate on the measure offered by Arizona Rep. Jeff Flake (R) calling for an investigation of the lobbying firm. Most of the Democrats represent fiscally conservative districts.
As usual – with two exceptions – the Democrats on the list of top PMA Porkers all voted to bury Flake’s call for transparency, while the Republicans on the list all voted in favor of it. Kanjorski didn’t vote, and top porker Visclosky actually kept a promise and voted for Flake’s resolution. Considering his somewhat brittle position right now, this isn’t all that surprising. Not quite enough to get him off of the hook, but not too surprising.
My thanks to Rep. Flake for keeping on with this – and thanks to pretty much the rest of the Republican caucus for backing his play. As for the Democrats who voted against it, well, my thanks to them too. You’re making it ever so much easier for us to demonstrate that ethical government has become a distinctly partisan political issue.
