xkcd calls it on Idiocracy.

I watched about half of it, all the while muttering You could have at least referenced The Marching Morons,” until I more or less lost interest.  I think that this comic has helped me understand why.

idiocracy

It’s because the movie was smugly smoking crack, that’s why.  And, absent the social insight, well… Idiocracy just ain’t all that as a film.

PS: xkcd is indirectly referencing something called the “Flynn Effect,” which basically indicates that average IQ scores have been going up since we started using IQ tests.  For some reason, the most obvious answer as to why – better infant and child nutrition worldwide means less brain damage – is being resisted by some; ach, well, it’s not like this is my field of study anyway, so I have no skin in the game.

  1. Moe, I have to say I disagree. I thoroughly enjoyed Idiocracy. The fact that common sense was the savior of the world rather then the idiotic debate of their “legislators”.

The “legislators” reminded me so much of the left in our country. Like the fact that somehow Perez Hilton is some sort of authority on anything at all. Or the insistence to continue with economic stimuli that are proven to not work, all because it has “electrolytes” i.e Brawndo.

Go to IMDB and read the excerpts of President Camacho speaking to congress and tell me that isn’t where you see Obama and the Dems if they remain in complete control for any extended period of time.

  2. You gave up on the movie too soon, Moe. Aaron Gardner is 100% correct and there is not much more I could add to what he said. I suggest you watch the whole movie.
