Here we go again with the 3rd party anxieties… #rsrh

Allahpundit’s worried and Jim Geraghty’s… not… over this report that a fake “Tea Party” candidate (I’m not going to pretend that Ashjian’s anything but that, sorry) could win the election in Nevada for Harry Reid (who has a 58% disapproval rating in the poll from said article).  The scenarios involve a 9% to 11% showing for said third-party candidate, when put up against Lowden and/or Tarkanian…

Why, yes.  That is precisely the path of victory that the polls showed in NJ last year when they showed Christie losing.  Ask former Governor Corzine how well Daggett’s eventual numbers worked out for him.  And no, individual third-party candidates typically don’t take 10% of the vote in Nevada.  In fact, collectively third-party candidates don’t take 10% of the vote, either.  Usually, they’re lucky to break 6%.

In other words: if this is the Democrats’ strategy, then I might as well start in on declaring DOOM for them now and save time.

PS: It’s way too soon for DOOM, of course.

Book of the Week: The Little Red Hen. #rsrh

I may have done this one before, but I’m putting it up, adding a hashtag so that The Little Red Hen (Little Golden Book) shows up on RedState’s RedHot, and categorizing it under Politics and Not-Politics because apparently A LOT OF PEOPLE OUT THERE NEED TO READ IT AGAIN.

Like, right now. After you read A Midsummer Tempest, of course.

PS: Yup, it has something to do with my comments on Fausta’s Blog Talk Radio program this morning.

Meet Patricia Sullivan (R CAND, FL-08).

I am almost done with the candidate interviews (I also spoke to a few other sitting politicians and activists) from CPAC: this is Patricia Sullivan, who is running for the privilege of removing Alan Grayson from Congress.  Her website is here.

NYT covers for Bill Delahunt; Boston Herald… won’t.

First, the NYT (via AoSHQ).  While discussing the latest insanity* coming from Amy Bishop (a ‘herpes bomb,’ apparently), the Times manages to discuss Bishop’s shooting of her brother without:

  • Mentioning just what political circles the Bishops were active in;
  • Mentioning just who the prosecutor was that dropped the charges; and
  • Mentioning just where that prosecutor is now.

The answers are, of course: Democratic political circles; William Delahunt; and representing the MA-10 Congressional district.  It’s a shame that the Times decided that such information was superfluous to requirements, but it’s not like who-what-when-where-why is all that important, surely?

Meanwhile, the Boston Herald is gearing up for a full-court press on Delahunt: (more…)

Random Thoughts.

  1. It’s been a long weekend, and I’m not quite done yet.
  2. Yup, that means more CPAC stuff.  And I haven’t even said what I thought about it this year.
  3. Yes, I know: no music videos lately, and Book of the Week is apparently not showing up today.  See #1.
  4. I’m mildly disappointed that there’s no romance option in DAO: Awakening.
  5. This thought has been redacted until further notice.
  6. I expect things to return more or less to normal over the next few days.
  7. Sorry that the political stuff has overwhelmed.  As above, so below.

Russ Carnahan (D, MO-03) tries to pander to gun-friendly voters.

I mean, look at this picture.

(Via 24thState, via Instapundit)

…yes, I know. You are right now quietly resolving to never get within 100 feet of Russ Carnahan when he’s carrying a firearm. Me, I’m still wondering why – assuming that this wasn’t a faked photo-op – that the law enforcement people standing next to him still have jobs. Heck, if that’s not really a functioning pistol it’s still subverting patient years of public education on gun safety. And for the sake of Russ Carnahan, no less.

No wonder Cook upgraded this race to competitive recently. And it a D+7 district, too.

PS: Anybody who doesn’t understand What’s Wrong With That Photo is going to be somebody who thinks that guns are Evil Magic Talismans (thank you, S.M. Stirling) anyway: so there’s no point in explaining it to them. 24thState is more accommodating than I, though.

PPS: One hopes that Ed Martin‘s campaign is paying attention.

A quick CPAC sitdown with Michael Williams.

He’s running for the Senate seat that Senator Hutchinson is going to vacate (assuming that she ever does), and I was able to touch base with him in between his speaking appearances at CPAC. Michael’s site is here: for those of you unaware of the odd nature of Texan nomenclature, a “Texas Railroad Commissioner” doesn’t actually have oversight over railroads. The position instead involves oversight over oil and other types of energy production, which is why it’s one of the most powerful elected positions in the state.

I didn’t meet Glenn Reynolds at CPAC… #rsrh

because he wasn’t there.

But I did meet or see LadyImpactOhio, @fpete13527, All American Blogger, Stacey and Smitty of The Other McCain, Melissa Clouthier, No Runny Eggs, @cprater, Baldilocks, Nice Deb, Little Miss Attila, Athens Runaway, Cynthia Yockey, Clyde Middleton of PatriotRoom,Tom White of Virginia Right!, Andrew Ian Dodge, and yes, I know that I am forgetting at least three people, which is why business cards are so bloody useful.   And I apologize in advance for anybody that I left out; it was a busy three days for me, which is just me making excuses for the lapse.  Now somebody’s not going to see his or her name, and I’ll feel bad about it.

Oh, and Jimmie Bise!  See what I mean?  The poor guy doesn’t give me his card, because of course I’d remember him, and I nearly forget because my memory’s all spotty right now.

Oh, and Tommy Christopher from the Other Side.

And, of course, the RedState krew.

Moe Lane

PS: I met Matt of Right Ohio in 2007, but Ohio’s going to erupt this election season, so check his site out.

PPS: And, yes, of course Ed MorrisseySheesh, Moe…

PPPS: D’OH! The folks at Smart Girl Politics, too.  Especially Tabitha Hale.

PPPPS: DaTechguy and Anita Moncrief.

PPPPPS: And it’s a good thing that Fausta and GayPatriot aren’t the vengeful types.

Scenes from CPAC: me and DemonSheep on Stage Right Show Friday night.

Below the fold is Friday night’s Stage Right Show: I’m on, starting at about 31:10. And I’m promptly upstaged by the very next interviewee, too. Yes, I was followed by – and shown up by – DemonSheep (and Leon Wolf). I had a lot of fun doing it anyway.

Larry O’Connor, by the way, is the guy who the next day eviscerated Max Blumenthal after Andrew Breitbart set up the shot:

So, it’s OK, he’s cool.
