You know, I think that Bioware succeeded in their goal of creating a disturbing what-if alternative history to Dragon Age: Origins – which is why I don’t think that I’m going to buy this. I can’t see any way to win without, well, winning.
You know, I think that Bioware succeeded in their goal of creating a disturbing what-if alternative history to Dragon Age: Origins – which is why I don’t think that I’m going to buy this. I can’t see any way to win without, well, winning.
So let me summarize the Washington Post article for you:
Somebody tried to set Lars Vilks and his house on fire, almost certainly because he draws mean things about their religion.
Via Hot Air Headlines. Yeah, this was the guy who got assaulted by religious fanatics earlier this week, after he showed them mean Photoshops about their religion:
I was just struck by an idle thought: what we’re dealing with now is a country ruled by people who fancy themselves as being philosopher-kings.
How’s that working out for everybody else? – because, personally, I’d be happier if more members of our self-appointed elitist class knew how to replace a fan belt. Or a brake light. Or a windshield wiper.
…I keep hearing that Newark Mayor Cory Booker is a decent enough chap. Shame he’s a Democrat.
…of the Girl Genius universe – England being sunk (but not depopulated), North America being inaccessible, the odd ubiquity of mountaintops with which to put a Mad Science castle/deathtrap/lair, one might almost be tempted to find the Steampunk/Mad Science setting attractive… until you see webcomic entries like this.
It’s not that the Male Love Interest #1 is lying; he’s not. It’s not that MLI #2 is accusing MLI #1 of lying; he’s not. It’s not even that MLI #1 did bring back Heroine’s family from the grave as a romance gambit.
It’s that it’s a recognized romance gambit. One that’s been done, ah, to death…
I feel I must correct Ed Morrissey on a tertiary point, here:
When was the last time we saw a movie with a Communist villain? 1959?
Much as some are loathe to admit to its existence, it must be admitted that Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull had Commies for the villains, and that there were explicit instances in the movie where Commies were forthrightly punched (they were, indeed, the highlights of the film, which Lucas managed to bring off successfully enough to avoid me declaring kanly upon his house*).
So there was at least one. Almost by accident, but at least one.

*I fully grant, as the very wise Ken Hite notes, “that the McCarthyism that has Indy’s Dean so Broadbent out of shape a) was a spent force by 1957 in our history, but b) turns out, on the merits, to be completely justified, given the number of Soviet agents running amuck in America in the movie’s history.” Nonetheless, it was all right.
Allahpundit’s got the right idea, here:
As a wise man once said, you can’t reason a man out of that which he wasn’t reasoned into, so rather than trying to politely explain the virtues of the law, they’d better start thinking about reciprocal. Take a piece of California’s ass economically and let the boycotters over there deal with the headaches of their own business leaders. And at some point, some high-profile Arizona pol really should call the bluff of sanctuary cities by offering to release captured illegals into their custody in lieu of deporting them. If Gavin Newsom and Mike Bloomberg and Antonio Villaraigosa are all so hot to welcome the “undocumented,” fantastic: Arizona’s got an endless supply and will be happy to provide however many to San Francisco and New York and L.A. that they’d like. In fact, as loathsome as I find McCain’s immigration pandering, I’ll applaud even if he’s the one who spearheads this idea. These sanctimonious lawless left-wing hypocrites must have their bluffs called. All the illegals they want, coming right up. Just say the word.
And I’m a pro-amnesty squish, by a lot of people’s standards. Just not one who is willing to give the aforementioned sanctimonious lawless left-wing hypocrites a pass on them being all for illegal immigrants – just as long as they don’t move in next door, of course.

I had a chance to talk today with Rebecca Wales, Communications Director of Smart Girl Politics. We discussed their publicity blitz, the nature and needs of activism among conservatives, and of course how cool Nikki Haley is.
Check it out.

A. I’ve read Arizona’s immigration bill:
REPRESENTATIVE TED POE, (R-TEXAS): …Have you read the Arizona law?
ERIC HOLDER, ATTORNEY GENERAL: I have not had a chance to, I’ve glanced at it. I have not read it.
POE: It’s ten pages. It’s a lot shorter than the healthcare bill which was 2,000 pages long. I’ll give you my copy of it if you would like to have a copy. Even though you haven’t read the law, do you have an opinion as to whether it’s Constitutional?
HOLDER: I have not really, I have not been briefed yet.
And AG Holder is being paid to do that, too. He’s not being paid to opine on it as a top administration official without thoroughly researching it first.

Or is he?

PS: Rep. Ted Poe just wasn’t having any of that, was he?
I’ve been trying to do this post for a few days (Rasmussen usually puts these numbers up before it does a formal article). Short version: eight out of ten for the GOP, but the Democrats made up lost territory across the board.
