I understand that Mayor Richard Daley is a liberal Illinois Democratic politician – which is semantically equivalent to ‘pig-ignorant about guns’ – so let’s go over some of the basics for him about firearm safety. Let’s also discuss some core assumptions that Dick needs to embrace:

• GUNS ARE NOT TOYS.
• GUNS ARE NOT PROPS.
• IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHETHER OR NOT A GUN IS LOADED, IT IS.
• IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHETHER OR NOT A GUN IS READY TO FIRE, IT IS.
• NEVER POINT A GUN AT A LIVING CREATURE UNLESS IT IS A MATTER OF EITHER SELF-DEFENSE OR RESPONSIBLE HUNTING.
• NEVER POINT A GUN AT A REPORTER.

This is one of those ‘funny when it happens to other countries’ stories. Some background: Senator Tom Harkin (D) of Iowa, having happily participated in saddling the American people with trillions of dollars of generational debt at the behest of his liberal party leadership, has decided to make things right for folks by introducing a bill to cap ATM fees.

If you’re like me – specifically, operating on a touch too little sleep and not yet adequately caffeinated – you probably read that as ‘Campbell Brown, War Crimes’ witness.  Turns out that this is actually not any kind of News of the Weird, though:

WAR crimes prosecutors want to subpoena supermodel Naomi Campbell to testify over a so-called blood diamond she allegedly received from Liberia’s ex-president Charles Taylor.

“Ms Campbell’s testimony is necessary as there is evidence that Ms Campbell was given rough diamonds by the accused (Taylor) in September 1997,” said a prosecution motion filed with the Special Court for Sierra Leone.

“Ms Campbell’s anticipated evidence concerns ‘a central issue’ in the case: the accused’s possession of rough diamonds,” states the document, a copy of which was obtained by AFP.

Via Ed Driscoll.  To be honest, I’ve never really delved deep into the Blood Diamond thing – I haven’t even seen the movie – but what I have read has been uniformly… unpleasant.  As is Charles Taylor; if he only existed in books the character would be denounced as a heavy-handed, racist caricature of African dictators.

Just to be clear, this is the Brian Walsh who is the political director of the NRCC, and not the Brian Walsh who is the communications director of the NRSC. We spoke for a bit on the recent past and the rapidly approaching future:

To expand on the third question a bit: sites like Reverse the Vote also exist to assist the eventual Republican candidates in a host of Democrat-held districts. As Brian noted, the important thing here is to flip the House.

The word ‘dramatic’ comes to mind:

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Republican Primary voters shows Haley earning 30% support. She’s followed by State Attorney General Henry McMaster who picks up 19% and Congressman Gresham Barrett with 17%. Lieutenant Governor Andre Bauer captures 12% of the vote.

The new findings mark a dramatic turn of events for Haley who ran fourth in March with just 12% support.r McMaster earned 21% of the vote at that time, with Bauer at 17% and Barrett at 14%.

We over at RedState have long favored Nikki to be the next governor of South Carolina, and it’s a pleasure to see our work start to pay off.  The next step?  Getting her over 50% and with no need for a runoff to distract her from crushing the Democratic candidate in November.

So. Nikki Haley for Governor.

Yes. You are shocked.

(Via @amandacarpenter) Let us walk through a test case on the administration’s claimed insurance support for small business owners.

• Zach owns a small business (24 employees, average salary $35K) and provides them with health care ($79.2K/year).
• He has already seen a 15% increase in health care costs this year, so he is quite keen to hear about insurance relief.
• The White House’s PR flunkies were bragging about a program that gives ‘broad eligibility’ to companies with less than 25 employees and average salaries below $50K.
• Zach is covered both ways!  Bring on that insurance relief!
• …Oh.  If you have more than 10 employees and average salaries above $20K… well.  The answer is, no, at Zach’s level he’s not getting insurance relief.
• And here’s the important thing: he was actually told otherwise by the White House’s PR flunkies, remember?
• We call that “a lie.”
• And – possibly more importantly – “business as usual.”
