“Apparently, there’s going to be a Nerf war at the office on Friday.”
And here I was wondering how to justify this.
Oh, I need a couple for a bachelor party, but not for a couple of months.

My colleague Erick Erickson raised a good point here: every so often you have to step back and take a breather. Having been given permission to pick up the latest Delta Green sourcebook* – which does the very smart thing of giving you a PDF of the work to tide you over until the hardcopy gets mailed to you – I am taking the morning off.
Because, dammit, I think that I’ve earned one.

It’s turning out to be a pretty good night.
My wife read this article and asked me what was it, with men:
One day after facing accusations of fondling himself, Detroit Public Schools President Otis Mathis wrote a letter to colleagues today blaming “ongoing health problems” for his “poor judgment.”
I told her that I didn’t know: I’ve never worked for the Detroit school system.

PS: The guy’s gone now.
Sen. Hatch had a conference call on Monday on two bills that he’s introduced in the Senate (the American Job Protection Act and the American Liberty Restoration Act) to remove, respectively, the employer mandate and the individual mandate from Obamacare. Below is my portion of the Q&A period:
To summarize: I asked how we were going to get these bills passed in the 111th Congress, and Senator Hatch was forthright in replying that he doesn’t expect that we will. But it’s still very important that we keep the Democrats’ feet to the fire, particularly since we will be in a better position in the 112th Congress to gut Obamacare; so let that be a motivator.
Indeed. Let it.

Hunt is one of the candidates running for Charlie Melancon’s seat in LA-03: the district is smack dab in the middle of Obamaspill, and as you can imagine, the candidate has views on that. Hunt’s a former general in the LA National Guard and state official, which gives him a pretty interesting perspective on this mess:

Quick: what does a video like this signify?
Yup, it’s a helpful warning that you’re about to be reminded that you shouldn’t believe Democratic politicians when they promise to not raise your taxes. (more…)
Sean Trende of Real Clear Politics – an underrated blogger, possibly because RCP is such a good site generally that its bloggers get overshadowed – still holds his opinion from April that the House is going to flip big in November:
The bottom line is that Democrats are on pace for an ugly November. They’re increasingly running out of time to change the dynamic, and it looks about as likely that things will get worse as that they will get better. If the elections were held today, the balance of the evidence suggests they would lose 50-60 seats. If you think the political environment will improve for Democrats, you can adjust your expectations accordingly, but if you think they will get worse, you can do the same.
He’s basing that on a few things: the Gallup and Rasmussen generic ballot polls, and the NPR analysis. (more…)
So, in the last forty-eight hours or so, we’ve learned:
Anyway, it’s a trifecta: a Chief of Staff who can’t keep the White House running smoothly, a Budget Director who can’t create a budget, and a top military guy who can’t keep his mouth shut about the civilian powers**. That’s one heck of an executive branch staffing record that the White House is accumulating there – and it’s only Tuesday. At this rate, we’ll wake up on Friday to the news that Steven Chu*** has just burned down the Department of Energy as part of a tragic toasted bagel accident.
