#RSRH RedState Gathering reminder.

It’s September 17th to September 19th in Austin, TX.  Registration information is here; some more details here.  Basically, it’s an opportunity to meet candidates for office, as well as other online right-activists; this year we’re working with American Majority to put together a training session.  Registration is $50 until August 1st ($99 afterwards), so get your spot (and reserve your room) now if you want the discount.

We did the last one in Atlanta last year, and it was a lot of fun.  Hope to see you there!

#rsrh WH blames Greenies for lack of GOP.

(Via Hot Air Headlines) Yeah.  Apparently they were the ones who were supposed to bring in the Republican party to support the climate bill.

(pause)

Wait.  What?

One exasperated administration official on Thursday lambasted the environmentalists – led by the Environmental Defense Fund – for failing to effectively lobby GOP senators.

“They didn’t deliver a single Republican,” the official told POLITICO. “They spent like $100 million and they weren’t able to get a single Republican convert on the bill.”

Yeah.  Um.  Right.  I don’t know how to quite break this to the Obama administration, but here you go… the only reason why the environmental movement doesn’t want to see the Republican party all die in a fire is because they’re worried about the resulting carbon footprint.  Bless their hearts, but they hate us so much that it gives them permanent wrinkles on their foreheads; so just how were they supposed to bring us on-side, anyway?

Or am I just in an alternate universe again?  If so, is this at least one where they found the sequel to Children of the Lens? That’d actually be worth the hassle of setting up a new bank account and credit card.

Jim Webb’s spectacular flame-out.

[UPDATE] Welcome, Instapundit readers.  I may not be entirely objective regarding this Webb fellow, and I’m not entirely certain why.

Oh, Jimmy.

Forty years ago, as the United States experienced the civil rights movement, the supposed monolith of White Anglo-Saxon Protestant dominance served as the whipping post for almost every debate about power and status in America. After a full generation of such debate, WASP elites have fallen by the wayside and a plethora of government-enforced diversity policies have marginalized many white workers. The time has come to cease the false arguments and allow every American the benefit of a fair chance at the future.

I have dedicated my political career to bringing fairness to America’s economic system and to our work force, regardless of what people look like or where they may worship. Unfortunately, present-day diversity programs work against that notion, having expanded so far beyond their original purpose that they now favor anyone who does not happen to be white.

I wonder if the above was the Senatorial equivalent of a mid-life crisis? – Although that’s not nearly self-destructive enough to be a true analogy.  Senator Webb seems to have forgotten that he has a ‘D’ after his name these days, which effectively means that this entire article is thoughtcrime that will pretty much guarantee him a messy primary in 2012.  Progressives do not appreciate thoughtcrime, particularly in their converts: they bought Jimmy Webb in 2006, and they expect their purchases to perform as expected. #rsrh The DOOOOOOOOOOM of Gaia.

Hey, who wants to drink some pain?

Sens. Reid and Kerry made it official today – the mostly dead climate bill is now extinct.  It has passed on!   It is is no more!  It has ceased to be! It’s expired and gone to meet ‘is maker! ‘E’s a stiff! Bereft of life, ‘e rests in peace! If you hadn’t nailed ‘im to the perch ‘e’d be pushing up the daisies! ‘Is metabolic processes are now ‘istory! ‘E’s off the twig! ‘E’s kicked the bucket, ‘e’s shuffled off ‘is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin’ choir invisibile!! THIS IS AN EX-CLIMATE BILL!!

Yeah, I know: that sounds like something that I would write – only, the author of it is trying to laugh because otherwise he’d be weeping with despair.  Tasty, marvelous, soul-destroying despair; the kind that’s smoky and textured in its flavor, with a lingering aftertaste that warms and supports without overwhelming the dish… where was I? John Callahan (D CAND, PA-15) coverup?

Callahan is running against Charlie Dent, in one of the seven races where the idea of a Democratic upset is not automatically a cause for derisive laughter (note that I’m not extending that to Cook’s eleven Likely Republican Republican-held seats).  Callahan’s nonetheless probably doomed anyway (this is a bad year to be a Democratic challenger), but before he goes away it’d be great if this got explained:

When a Bethlehem police officer is hospitalized in the line of duty, and by a car driving too fast and in the wrong direction on a one-way road, that’s news. Especially when the driver just happens to be Dino Cantelmi, the Mayor’s brother-in-law. Amazingly, there never was any account of this incident in either The Morning Call or Express Times. One former reporter tells me one newspaper might miss a story like this, but not both. He questioned whether this incident was ever included in the police blotter for that day.

“Yea, though I walk through the valley…

“…of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil, for the Dark Knight is by my side.”

I normally would at least wag a finger there – it’s not unreasonable to find that at least a little rude – but it was in response to the Fred Phelps freaks showing up at a comic book convention, which means that context is going to come into play here.  Given that I’ve heard ordinary, decent Christians happily endorse the idea that a good curbstomping would be an excellent way to respond to the Phelps clan’s habit of protesting soldiers’ funerals, I think that we can forgive invoking the geek community’s invocation of Batman.

Netroots: ignoring, or impotent?

This is entertaining

Liberals could face major losses if they continue to ignore the Tea Party movement, a panel of progressive writers said Thursday during a discussion at NetrootsNation, an annual gathering of bloggers, activists and policy makers.

The panelists, which included well-known authors David Neiwert and John Amato of Crooksandliars.com, warned that regardless of whether people have negative attitudes toward the Tea Party, progressives could lose their footing unless they mobilize their own base and treat the right-wing movement as a force to be reckoned with.

…but ultimately pointless: the netroots have already mobilized their base.  A large portion of it is in Las Vegas right now resolutely ignoring the Blanche Lincoln Lesson*, and the rest of it is bitterly at home producing the political pornography which is the netroots’ reason for existence.  As for the consumers of that pornography… well.  They’re already engaged in the struggle through said consumption: what more can people reasonably expect of them? #rsrh *Only* 430 of 435?

Tsk, tsk, tsk.

Republicans have found candidates to run in 430 of 435 districts this fall, a total that tops the party’s previous high of 427, which was set in 1996.

[snip]

In 2006, there were 422 Democrats on the ballot compared with 388 Republicans. Last cycle, House Democrats put up 420 candidates to Republicans’ 392.

Oh, I guess we’re just going to have to forgive the NRCC this one time, though. (more…)

Meet Bob McConnell (R CAND, CO-03).

He’s one of the candidates looking to upset John Salazar in November… and if given the chance, he just might do it, too. Bob’s a good guy and he was nice to talk with; I can see why Sarah Palin made it a point to endorse him. If he wins, I think that we have a race here.

Bob’s site is here.
