Batman, Hostess Cupcakes, and the hell that was the 70s.

In some ways, this frame from Cracked.com’s 6 Insane Batman Comics Courtesy of Tasty Hostess Cupcakes says it all.  Or about Hostess Cupcakes, and the intersection of them with superhero comics in a time where everybody was desperate to get the consumer economy revving up faster.

Sweet God, but the pre-Reagan era purely sucked.

  1. I beg to differ. From a pop-culture view, the 70s didn’t suck at all. On the music scene we have bands like, Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, and the Ramones.

Jaws, Patton and Star Wars were all 70s films. The orginal Battlestar Galactica was relased in 1978. The better known Steven King books were published, as well as ‘The Right Stuff’.

Yes, I can agree with you that things like disco and fashion sucked then but to say it purely sucked is horse hockey.

  2. True, and there was also Led Zeppelin & AC/DC in music, the Godfather and Alien in movies, and effectively the Flashman novels if you stretch the point. So point taken, and I concede it.

But I can remember the tag-end of 1978-80 pretty well, and it wasn’t fun.

  3. Thanks for linking that Moe, I haven’t laughed that much in ages 😀 My sides ache…………
