#rsrh Democrats Co-opt Stewart/Colbert Infotainment Event.

(Via Hot Air Headlines) Well, they always had planned to do that  (which wasn’t exactly the best-kept secret in the world), but now it’s kind of obvious.  This is, in fact, turning into the Great Democratic Hope of 2010: the goal is to convert that potent, potent force known as the ‘youth vote’ into a mighty hammer of civic engagement that will keep in office… the political party that is responsible for roughly one in five of them currently being out of work.

But OfA is planning a phone bank for right afterward!  Personally, I’d have waited an hour or two to give all those volunteering livers a chance to metabolize the ethyl alcohol that will undoubtedly be consumed on Saturday, but don’t mind me, grasshoppers.

…Good God, but this house is a mess.  Even if the election’s in five days.

Err, light posting for a bit.

Umm. Did Mass Effect *I* require an internet connection…

…to play?  I ask because I just got my copy of Mass Effect, and it seems to be requiring that.

Bear in mind, obviously I have an internet connection; and I’m only playing it to build my Adept up and give her all the cool options for Mass Effect 2… so that I can have a really cool character for Mass Effect 3.  Hmm.  I’m starting to detect a pattern of addiction, here.  Anyway, I can obviously play ME even if I need Net access; but was this a usual feature of the first game?

#rsrh Haunted White House (w/Avatars!)

Yes, it’s from the RNC.  Yes, I know how much esteem folks are giving the national committees these days.  Still: look upon the ACORN squirrel, and tell me that isn’t some funny stuff there.

And they even have avatars for you, now!

Moe Lane

PS: Please, don’t waste my time on how you won’t help the RNC ever, ever, ever.  Not to be mean-spirited about this, but I’ve noticed that the higher levels of esteem that some of my readers have for me over the Republican party doesn’t seem to be translating into hitting the tip jar to help cover bandwidth costs (sayeth he without real heat).

Just saying.

Chris Christie kills ARC Train project. Again.

Hey, remember the ARC Train project?

For those who don’t keep track of arcane New Jersey political footballs, the project was a long-proposed, long-delayed plan to build an underground light rail tunnel between Newark and NYC.  This project got rushed ahead by former Governor Jon Corzine -

Excuse me for a moment: former Governor Jon Corzine.  That’s still a pleasure to type out.

..who needed something flashy to try to salvage his re-election bid.  Didn’t work; and so Governor Chris Christie (R) came into office facing a program that was going to cost the state of NJ at least 2.7 billion, and probably a good deal more (the state was to be responsible for cost overruns, which were already projecting to be substantial).  So Christie killed the program(more…)

CNN calls Alex Sink (D CAND, FL-GOV) a liar.

And no, it wasn’t Erick who did that. It was John King.

Background: there was a debate on Monday night between Alex Sink and Republican Rick Scott. There had been an agreement beforehand that there would be no notes or outside help… and Sink promptly ignored said agreement by taking advice from a campaign staffer via cell phone. The staffer has since been fired; and that might have been it… except that Sink last night decided to double down on stupid by claiming that she didn’t know that the call had been politically-related when she took it. Relevant quote: “…the makeup artist held up her phone and said ‘I just got this message, I don’t know who it’s from…’”

CNN says… no, actually, that’s not what we heard.

Relevant quote there: “But we listened very closely to the audio, and the makeup artist, when she approached Alex Sink, said ‘I have a message from the staff.’ And at that point they looked, it was on a cell phone, it was two sentences…” (more…)

#rsrh The Last Days of the Land of Smug.

Jeff Jacoby has had it up to here with these people:

THE HILLS are alive with the sound of liberal Democratic contempt for the electorate. So are the valleys, the prairies, and the coasts. For months, voters have been signaling their discontent with the president, his party, and their priorities; in less than a week, they appear poised to deliver a stinging rebuke. Yet rather than address the voters’ concerns with seriousness and respect, too many Democrats and their allies on the left have chosen instead to slur those voters as stupid, extremist, or too scared to think straight.

Personally, this sort of behavior by my political enemies is a great comfort to me.  I shouldn’t have to explain why - it should be blatantly obvious – but it will be interesting to see the aftermath of next Tuesday.  I expect that there will be the usual mix of We need to be more progressive! and Americans suck! and The GOP stole the elections! and We won these three, four races, so we really came out ahead anyway, so laugh with me at the Republicans, DAMN YOU LAUGH WITH ME AT THE REPUBLICANS!*: whether or not there’s a grown-up response will be largely dependent on whether the Democrats can find some and put them in leadership roles.

Hey, it could happen.

#rsrh Patrick Murphy’s (D PA-08) fake ballot office scam.

Last week it came out that Pennsylvania residents received fake letters from the Pennsylvania Voter Assistance Office (otherwise known as ‘the Democratic party of Bucks County, PA’) soliciting absentee ballot applications from targeted voters.  What made the situation very troubling is that the letters included a prepaid envelope that did not send completed applications to the appropriate Pennsylvanian election office; the applications instead were to go to a private post office box, and anybody who claims to not see the potential there for blatant electoral fraud is either deeply stupid, or a bald-faced liar.

Now NRO has learned that Patrick Murphy’s campaign manager (Tim Persico) was one of the people with access to this post office box, which implies that Murphy was aware of the entire situation.  Murphy has been generally trailing challenger Mike Fitzpatrick; there’s more than a faint whiff of desperation here, even if one discounts the idea of voter fraud.  Although, given the historical record, why one would want to give a Democratic politician in a tough race any slack when it comes to voter fraud eludes me…

Movie of the Week: The Abominable Dr. Phibes.

I have not seen The Abominable Dr. Phibes in years – decades – and damned if I know why I have not; it was excellent, for what it was.  Which is to say, a horror movie best described as ‘the sort of film designed to let Vincent Price have fun without working too hard at it.’  Still, seeing what the Mod period thought that the Victorian period looked like is alone worth the price of admission.

And so, Gojira sinks back into the ocean.
