#rsrh On Reid and NRA renewals.

Ignoring the NRA’s get-eaten-last strategy for the moment… I dunno, Glenn.  Based on the numbers: if we’re spotting an additional five points to the Senate races then if Reid had lost he’d have been joined with Bennett and Murray, making the end result a 50/50 tie and Joe Biden expected to explicitly sign off on all the legislation that gets passed in the 112th Congress.  That would have been fun.

But what’s done is done.

  1. The NRA, more than likely, saw Angle as a sure loser from the start. Given what we’ve learned about how Angle’s campaign was run, I’m afraid they were right.

  2. Angle lost for a couple reasons, partly because the SEIU was running the voting machines, but more significantly because Republican Party leaders in Nevada stabbed her in the back. Same thing happened in Delaware.

  3. Oh, I’d love to believe that O’Donnel had a shot in Delaware, but no, she really didn’t. The conventional wisdom isn’t always wrong. She was too odd and too conservative for that state.

This is not a defense of Mike Castle or a wish that he had won. Not having Castle around to stab us in the back was totally worth defeating him in the primary. I just wish the sacrificial lamb had run a less embarrassing campaign.
