Excellent song; I first heard it as June Tabor’s haunting a cappella version…the only quibble I have with it is that the first verse implies that our young man was conscripted, whereas Australia never had conscription during WWI…all those lads needlessly slaughtered at ANZAC Cove were volunteers…
