Movie of the Week: Going Postal.

Going Postal is, of course, the movie version of the Terry Pratchett Discworld novel of the same name; and, of course, the British have had it forever before they deigned to share it with us.  I’d make a rude comment, but I don’t dare do that until I have a copy in my grubby little hands.

Hey, there are some things I can’t fight.  Or don’t dare to.

  1. It’s a stale whine but how it is possible that Discworld hasn’t been treated to a faithful but high value production of some sort? Is that too much to ask in my lifetime?

  2. Barring a Peter Jackson scenario, a big budget applied to Discworld would sap it of all its spirit. The number of… “compromises” made to humor the money men would be atrocious.

I am looking forward to the mini-series they’ve apparently been working on. When you hear Pratchett and Idle tossing around the idea of a CSI/Law and Order/Wire in the Blood parody centered around the Ankh-Morpork Nightwatch…

I can almost see the Librarian walking up to a crime scene, whipping off a pair of sun glasses and saying “Ook. Oook-ook.”

    (cue scream)

  3. I watched it a couple of months ago…very entertaining and pretty faithful to the book.
