#rsrh Primary challenger to Gabriel Giffords (D, AZ)?

Via Drudge, this is a somewhat… surprising reaction to local Democrat Anthony Prowell’s attempts to run in the Democrat primary against Rep. Giffords:

Initially looking to run for office as a Democrat, Prowell has been subjected to the ire of local party officials and everyday citizens aghast that he would challenge Giffords, who has only cast one congressional vote since a near-fatal shooting in January.

The few local Democratic Party officials he has spoken with on the phone are “livid” and have “flat out said, ‘we already have a congresswoman and I will not support you in any means whatsoever’” before hanging up, Prowell said.

Barack Obama and the *second* YouTube election.

First off, let’s peruse this video very quickly: via Hot Air, it shows Senator Barack Obama claiming that it was ‘unpatriotic’ for President George Bush to oversee an increase in the debt of four trillion dollars over eight years…

…because apparently it’s much more patriotic to increase the debt by four trillion in two years, seven months.  Which is how much Barack Obama has used… what was the phrase?  Ah, yes: “the credit card from the Bank of China” …to provide us with – well, nothing in particular except a lot of excuses and a lowered credit rating.  I for one applaud this demonstration that Barack Obama can be more efficient than George W Bush was in something: frankly, we were all starting to wonder.

But we’re not going to talk about that.  What we are going to talk about is the way that this conversation wouldn’t have been as easy to have in 2004, or even 2008. (more…)

Michael Bay’s Ouija movie in doubt.

Yes, I’ll wait until you recover from the title.

Ready to go?  …What, no, take your time.

Oh, come on.  Now you’re just milking the moment. (more…)

Rubio. Birthers.

Well alrighty, then.

The Daily Caller has the details*:

Here’s how the logic works (according to World Net Daily’s Joe Kovacs): “While the Constitution does not define ‘natural-born citizen,’ there is strong evidence that the Founding Fathers understood it to mean someone born of two American citizens.”

Kovacs (and he is not alone) goes on to reason that Rubio’s “eligibility is in doubt” because — though his parents were legal U.S. residents when he was born — they were not yet naturalized citizens.

:Rolling eyes: ‘Going viral.’

For my regular readers: forgive me for revisiting this issue one last time; but every so often I gotta talk about the stuff that interests me even if it doesn’t interest anybody else.  We’ll get into other stuff after this, I promise. (more…)

“Respect.” …With Tiny Toons.

Respect, Aretha Franklin

(pause)

Huh.  Was Tiny Toons always that weird, and I just didn’t notice it?

PS: That strange and archaic device was known as a cassette tape player, by the way.

Book of the Week: Murder Mysteries.

This  is perhaps a little… cheeky of me; but I’m in that kind of mood, honestly.  You see, I got told by a since-passed-the-sell-date-commenter that my little grit-in-the-Left’s-self-regard that was this post about Jane Yolen supposedly got the attention of Neil Gaiman himself*; so I think that it’s a perfect time to note that Murder Mysteries was a great graphic novel adaptation of Gaiman’s short story, which is of course one of the best stories about angels ever written. Then again, you know: Neil Gaiman.

And thus the circle closes.

In other words, Temporary Duty is signing off.

*Although I haven’t really confirmed that; you see, it’s apparently all on Facebook, and the only time I check that site these days is to find out whether they’ve fixed the lag for Dragon Age Legends.  Annnnnnnd…. no, they have not.  You’d think that they would; particularly since the problem seems mostly confined to Firefox users.

RS Gathering 2011: Don Stenberg (R CAND, NE-SEN PRIMARY).

This is, unfortunately, a bit late: there were some problems with this and another video, which have seen been resolved.  At any rate, Don was one of our speakers at the Gathering – he’s hoping to defeat the other pseudo-moderate Democratic Senator named Nelson in the US Senate – and Don took a few moments to talk with us the night before:

Don’s site is here.

Don Graves, sacrificial lamb Executive Director, President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness – and let us pause for a moment to contemplate the subtle horror of having that dead albatross on your resume for the rest of your life – while trying to explain that African-Americans shouldn’t feel oppressed just because the Democrats’ current economic policy has been kicking their particular racial/cultural demographic in the teeth.  Repeatedly:

“You may not feel like the president is listening to you, but he hears you loud and clear,” Graves said, referring to the growing anger from African-Americans that was on view last week as Waters spoke at a much-covered CBC town hall in Detroit.

#rsrh Was that an earthquake?

In Maryland?

UPDATE: That was an earthquake, up and down the Eastern Seaboard.  New York to South Carolina, at least. 5.8, according to Twitter.

FURTHE UPDATE: We are going to not hear about anything else from the media for the next two days.  At least.  And the political cartoonists are right now sharpening their pens.

Mabariawwww.

This is staggeringly brilliant.

Well, if you’re into Dragon Age Origins then this is staggeringly brilliant.  If this doesn’t win the Bioware YouTube costume contest – or at least get a special mention – then there is no justice in this universe.

Maybe I should do a Jane Yolen video.

Usually this stuff normally dies down after a day, but apparently point out the extremely obvious statement that a children’s author is a hateful bigot (and, might I add: just a wee bit ignorant about her political opponents) and it grates so on some.  You know what’s really fun?  The parts where they accuse me of censorship.  Of course I’m censoring you, you dolts: this is my site, and you’re dolts*.  Heck, censoring you is part of my business model.

Hold on, let me throw some magnesium on the fire: (more…)
