Gov. John Lynch (D, NH) cuts and runs.

New Hampshire has two-year terms for governor, so Lynch was up for a fifth term in 2012; but he’s decided not to run.  Apparently being Governor of New Hampshire isn’t as much fun when the new, Republican-controlled legislature makes you spend less money to balance the budget and won’t let you trample all over a basic civil right* like self-defense (via @Lash3).  There’s also right-to-work reform looming, so really, eight years is enough, right?

The field was already pretty wide-open, by the way – despite the fact that Lynch was supposedly popular.  Then again, that’s such a subjective thing these days.  Particularly if you’re a Democrat with President Obama threatening to drag  down your ticket next year.  Not that I’m suggesting that this is the case in New Hampshire, of course.

Yet.

  1. completely OT Moe, but have you seen the Big Hollywood piece by Nolte about same-sex relationships in Old Republic? I’ve thought for some time that BH needs a gaming contributor, and this is why. I’d nominate YOU, of course. 🙂

    1. Just read it now. Frankly, nobody under the age of 16 should be playing a Bioware game to begin with; and above that age I’m not really what you’d call concerned on the subject. This topic went ’round and ’round with Dragon Age 2 (one of the [male] romance options would instigate hitting on your PC, regardless of gender); I have more sympathy for the ‘forcing my PC to incorporate romance/sex issues in the game’ part of it than I do the ‘guy’s hitting on my maleHawk’ part.

Mind you, when it comes to Bioware I routinely play female characters (better voice actresses), and I’ve noticed with some amusement that almost nobody seems to get nearly as upset about how there’s always a lesbian option. Can’t imagine why that would be. 🙂

  2. Exactly so. Unless something wierd is going on, I wager OR handles it in a somewhat DA2 fashion – meaning you know when you are choosing a ‘romance’ option, and the game never really cares if you choose ANY romance option.

Mind you, in DAO, the only lesbian option was Leiliana, and you had to work DAMNED HARD at it. Not that I’d know anything about that. 🙂

    1. Well, that was a glitch in the game that was easy to fix… if you had the toolset, and the three pages of instructions handy. Not that I’d know anything about THAT, myself. 🙂
