Badlands, Bruce Springsteen

The odd paradox of Bruce Springsteen is that he got ahead in this world by singing legitimately powerful and heartfelt songs about… how people like Bruce Springsteen can’t get ahead in this world.

Oops.  On the other hand, what is he supposed to do?  Give back the money and awards?  I wouldn’t.

Limousine liberalism is an odd thing. I’m Springsteen’s biggest fan (among millions of biggest fans). He captures the human condition as well as ay pop musician. But he is unwilling to suggest that the answer is hard work and dedication to craft.

Of course. I think sometimes stars start to feel as though their fame and fortune far exceeds the work it took to get it, and then they start to project that sense on to everybody else’s success.
