Gov. Dannel Malloy (D, CT) flees disaster relief press conference?

Via AoSHQ Headlines: turns out that Connecticut’s new governor Dannel Malloy (D) is not exactly the swiftest in the pack when it comes to first-response to natural disaster.  As you probably remember, the Northeast was hit by a freak snowstorm on the weekend of October 29th: depending on which report you read, somewhere between 116,000 and 300,000 Connecticut residents remain without power, ten days later.  But, fortunately, they’ve got a governor who’s there to… well, read.

The person who has taken the brunt of the public scorn is [Connecticut Light & Power's] president and chief operating officer, Jeffrey D. Butler. He has been appearing with Gov. Dannel P. Malloy at daily news briefings, but he was left to face a grilling by the media on his own Thursday night when the governor left the room after criticizing the slow pace of power restoration.

#rsrh May Barack Obama keep *this* promise, at least.

…just for the novelty value.

Let me note, in passing: thank GOD that I don’t have the job of trying to convince the American people that this current administration couldn’t have been replaced with a rapidly oxidizing cast-iron skillet and the country still would have been better off overall.  That’s a job that would almost demand heavy alcohol consumption in order to stay sane – and I’m not twenty-three anymore; my liver wouldn’t hold up under the strain.

#rsrh A Reminder to Lehigh County, PA voters:

Please vote for reform candidates Scott Ott, Vic Mazziotti, and Lisa Scheller in the Lehigh County Commissioner race.  Scott Ott is, of course, the blogger behind Scrappleface, and a good guy who is going through the hassle of running for office (which, honestly, more of us should be doing).

Ron Paul: rolling like Dennis Kuchinich.

Revolutionary-era cosplay and women with cleavage:

Damn straight Ron Paul’s got a sh*t-eating grin on his face.  The man’s living the dream.

I mean, I don’t even like Ron Paul and I’m forced to show respect.

Cash for Clunkers’ failure: minorities, poor people hardest hit.

Or: Why Johnny Can’t Drive.

Washington Post’s Ezra Klein’s substitute writer Brad Plumer got the unenviable job of having to admit that the government’s infamous Cash-for-Clunkers stealth auto dealership bailout – in which people traded in still-useable cars in exchange for trade-in money for a new car – didn’t particularly stimulate the economy, didn’t improve US car manufacturer’s market share, and “increased average fuel economy in the United States by just 0.65 miles per gallon.”  The trigger event for this admission was this Resources For the Future report that is fairly damning, in its somewhat dry and equation-laden way: of course, we on the Right were all yelling about this issue right from the start, but it’s still nice to see some math backing us up.

Still, Klein’s substitute doesn’t consider another economic factor: what happened as a result of taking used cars off of the market.  You see, there’s a considerable demand for almost worn-out cars: poor people, young people, and/or urban minorities can maintain them well enough to be cost effective – if the price is low enough.  And what happens, class, when demand remains the same but the supply decreases?  (more…)

#rsrh Jammie Wearing Fools 2.0 launches today.

They’ve revamped the layout, gone with a nice, less cramped visual style and generally cleaned things up.  Plus, of course, they showed great taste and discernment by blogrolling both RedState and this site.

Check out their new site here.

“No Description Available.” (…NSFW)

No description available, or for that matter, really desired.

I mean, I’m sure that this has some sort of rationale behind it, but it will be undoubtedly not worth the trouble of finding out.  Note that I’m rating it NSFW because of the sheer amount of skin involved, but get caught watching this at work and your boss will probably be too stunned at his/her own WTF epiphany to give you much grief over it.

PS: Seriously.  Don’t explain this one to me.  I am happy with the mystery.

The Real Occupy DC.

A couple of things to take away from this video:

(For those without video access, it starts with Rudy Giuliani at the AFP summit hanging the Occupiers around Barack Obama’s neck; continues with scenes of Progressives Acting Badly by trying to interfere with the free movement of more productive members of society attending said summit; and ends with several actual residents of DC pointing out that the aforementioned progressives are also interfering with their lives, and that they would like the progressives to move out of the way so that they can get home now, please.)

…anyway, a few thoughts: (more…)

So, this happened.

You don’t, strictly speaking, have to click past the title – “She certainly packs a punch! Octomom defeats ‘Long Island Lolita’ Amy Fisher in the ring at celebrity boxing bout” – but I would, anyway, if only to see the gloves.

Reality. It defeats me, once again.

Glenn Reynolds, on The Secret:

Rallies don’t win elections. Neither do drum circles. Organizing does. Let Occupiers and Tea Partiers alike take note.

Although one wonders whether the former will quite get that the trick is not to keep organizing yourself until a hundred-strong group consists of one hundred working groups of one.

A probably heretical observation.

Is it just me, or does Minecraft look kind of… lonely?

I mean, you can build all this stuff, but you’re the only one living there?  Kind of oppressive, in its way.

So… a *black* iPod costs twenty five bucks less.

What is up with that?  I mean, it’s the same item, right?  Are the white cases made from blind monks in their hidden marsh* temple, or something?

Still: very pretty. And SMALL.

*Have you seen the rents on hidden mountain temple sites? – Besides, all the good locations are locked up.
