#rsrh …You know something?

Let’s not get this entire mess out for the record, for once.  Let’s just summarize.  It is in fact possible to disapprove of Rick Perry’s social-conservative ad without also hating social conservatives, ceasing to support Perry, or viciously and profanely outing (warning: language NSFW) Perry’s pollster.  Something that GOProud should have thought about before it made itself radioactive and embarrassed its putative allies on the Right by doing that last one.

Put another way: this was not a good explanation, GOProud.  I am a social moderate and same-sex marriage supporter who wanted the end of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell… and I have no intention of defending your group on this.  You guys screwed up.  Own it, so that we can move on.

I really should watch Justice League Unlimited.

Gimme a break, they don’t quite make these things for kids anymore anyway.  Anyway, I keep seeing clips like this, which tells me that there are depths to the show:

I mean, seriously.  They usually don’t let Batman be surprised at anything.   Because he’s Batman.  I love the character – he’s my favorite in the DC universe, except for possibly Plastic Man – but seeing him get blindsided like that was kind of endearing.

#rsrh Business Insider has a little, little list for the White House.

Business Insider started snide* with this article, but all in all, “Here Are The 8 People Obama Needs To Fire If He Wants To Win In 2012” is still a highly entertaining read.  Apparently, all Obama has to do is get rid of his Chief of Staff, campaign manager, senior WH adviser, Attorney General, Secretary of Education, and every female Cabinet Secretary not named Hillary Clinton.  Which is… true, but also kind of frightening.  But not as frightening as this statement:

But under NO circumstances should he get rid of Joe Biden
The Vice President may be a loose cannon, but at this point, he’s the only adult in the room.

AG Eric Holder calls Operation Fast & Furious ‘Reckless…’

…and admits that future deaths will occur.

The Obama administration – in the form of Attorney General Eric Holder – admitted today in Congressional testimony that Operation Fast & Furious program was ‘reckless,’ and will likely end up getting even more people killed.

Rep. Ted Poe, R-TX: Would you agree that this operation was reckless? It was a reckless operation on the part of the United States?

Attorney General Eric Holder: I mean, I think that the way that it was carried out I’d certainly say it was flawed, reckless, yeah I’d probably agree with that. I mean it was done inappropriately, and has had tragic consequences and is going – as I’ve said in my opening statement – it’s going to continue to have tragic consequences…

Rep. Poe: More people are going to die? Probably?

AG Holder: Unfortunately, I think that that’s probably true.

So.  Let us recap. (more…)

#rsrh Barack Obama hates unions…

…at least, the ones that actually produce things.  My colleague has already written up the President’s threat to veto a payroll tax cut extension if the Republicans dare… attach a go-ahead on the critically important Keystone ethical oil pipeline; but I have a question for the rank-and-file construction/petroleum union workers who might like to, you know, get some work.

Not to be obnoxious or anything about this – I myself am the son of a proud union man and Truman Democrat – but have you guys considered that maybe your union leadership is using your dues money to promote candidates and causes that aren’t actually in your class interest?  I mean, the Republicans want you folks to work.  We’re trying to get you guys to work.  In an ideal world, you’d all be working right now on this pipeline.  It’s the Democrats who are giving some of you miserable Christmases.  Not us.

Just… think about it, OK?

Movies to watch in order to understand geeks.

No, I don’t know why I’m writing this one, either: most of my readership consists of geeks.  But, hey, content is content.

A quick note: I am operating under the assumption that you don’t need to be told that you should watch the Star Wars, Star Trek, and/or Indiana Jones series; lots of people who aren’t geeks have watched those films, anyway.  I also don’t mean to suggest that No True Geek would have not seen (or not liked) the movies below: merely that in my experience these movies have informed the geek collective worldview in significant ways.  Keep in mind as well that this list is not comprehensive; there’s plenty of other films that could be on this list.  Lastly, none of these are necessarily the best movies in the world, or even the best geek movies.  Merely influential, oft-quoted ones.

Anyway, in no particular order:

#rsrh Boston sets midnight deadline for Occupy Boston.

Yesterday a Bostonian court decided that the Occupiers’ occupation was not in fact protected by the First Amendment; today Boston mayor Thomas Menino lowered the boom.  The Occupiers have until midnight to disperse their illegal encampment, or the city of Boston will do the dispersal for them.  It’s yet to be determined whether they’re going to go quietly; although that may be more to do with the Occupiers’ inability to actually do anything useful with their time than anything else.

Which is probably why Democrats across the land have decided to gut the Occupy movement.  You simply can’t get these people to accomplish anything.  They apparently can’t even elect progressive candidates to Congress; at least, they’re showing no signs of moving in that direction (unlike, say, the Tea Party).

#rsrh Mitch McConnell… discusses… National Popular Vote.

(Via Hot Air Headlines) I don’t particularly want to muck with the Senate Majority Leader’s play, here – but I’m not particularly worried about the National Popular Vote*, and here’s why:

So far, California, seven other states, and the District of Columbia (all of which have large Democratic majorities) have passed legislation taking the National Popular Vote pledge. Those states and D.C. account for 132 electoral votes. The compact says it is to take effect when states with a total of at least 270 electoral votes have agreed to it.
