A question for ANY GOP Presidential campaign out there…

…why are none of them talking about Operation Fast & Furious? And when I say ‘talk’ I mean ‘bringing it up at every opportunity, complete with raised voices and angry tones.’

Seriously. This is an easy issue to be on the right side of: everyone agrees – now – that it’s bad to create a sting operation where you facilitate the running of guns to Mexican narco-terrorists without proper safeguards (or indeed any safeguards at all); everyone agrees that it’s bad when guns that you’ve facilitated turn up at the murder scene of a US Border Agent; and while everyone may not agree that Attorney General Eric Holder is either a blithering incompetent or a malignantly corrupt callous bureaucrat, certainly virtually anybody who will be voting in the Republican primaries does.  As Mark Hemingway notes here: this should be a slam-dunk issue for a Republican candidate.  Particularly one who, I don’t know, might want to shore up his conservative credentials?

Hint, hint.

  1. Because they’re politicians, who by definition are going to tend to want to increase their power, and so they’re secretly supportive of the aims (if not the methods) of F&F? Alternatively, they’re deathly afraid of being called racist for going after Holder?

As for the Congress/party leadership, I’d like to think that there’s some strategery involved, trying to time when either the independent counsel is appointed or the Democrats in the Senate/Obama obstruct this appointment for maximal impact on the election, but this is the Republican party we’re talking about, and they’re called the Stupid party for a reason, so incompetence is probably the answer. Of course, that may be the answer for the Presidential campaigns as well.

  2. Seems like a winner for making inroads with Mexican immigrants too. “Why did Obama’s DOJ allow weapons to go to drug cartels that are killing Mexican civilians?”

  3. Here is a scary thought, how about they don’t want to win because they understand that a major SHTF event is going to happen in the near future. The collapse of Europe, Israeli strike on Iran, serious economic problems in China all real possibilities. They just want to make themselves viable for 2016, they think Obama is unbeatable, so they never really try to beat him. Should be funny when they do.

  4. More likely it’s because they know that if they win the election they’ll be working with the permanent government- the people responsible for F+F- and they don’t want to get ambushed like GWB did.
I still think they’re a pack of cowards, mind you…
