  1. Yes, SAN loss will be x(d20), the coefficient of (d20) being x. Kind of funny that the coefficient of 43 is 1 when the answer for the meaning of the universe is 42, another math joke.

  2. Well, I’m a math major and it didn’t make any sense to me (of course, it’s been a *few* years since I was in college…). Now, if he’d said 42 I would have at least laughed…

  3. I think the 43 in meaningless, just the coefficient of 1 meaning picking a random number amongst 1 offered number.

    But it’s a junior high boy’s math joke. Which is to say, the math equivalent of a fart. Spegen has the details, above. You don’t lose any SAN points having it explained, unless you laugh once it’s explained; then you roll d20 for how many points you get to keep.
