On why relying on market forces sucks for the progressive blogosphere.

While there’s a certain amount of schadenfreude welling up in what passes for my soul at yet another post by yet another progressive blogger complaining that the top-down, Inner Party/Outer Party support model that dominates the Left-blogosphere absolutely sucks for anybody who isn’t part of the elect – yes.  You are all surprised – there is one thing that actually does offend me about it.  Which is the implicit sneering being done at Right-blogosphere readers.  Particularly the whining being done here.

Now, I freely admit that I am in a genuinely blessed situation, as my major blogging at RedState is done under Eagle Publishing’s aegis, which means that the mechanics of keeping the site running are not my concern (and my relationship with Eagle Publishing is – he said, smiling – not your concern).  But I still have good readers; ones that are apparently happy to throw money in my tip jar, buy me iPads and Wiis and electronic crack, and reroute their Amazon.com buying habits through my site in order to show their support.  And they do it despite the fact that they know that I will spend it on gimcracks (because, thank God, I don’t need it for groceries); because it has value for them, and they feel that they are supposed to pay for things that they find valuable.

There is a difference between being mildly sadistic, and being down-and-out nasty; so I will not finish the thought that I was originally going to put down, here.  I’ll instead put up a PayPal button, because living well is the best revenge.

  1. I second the Gator’s suggestion. Preferably something gaming-related, but I would buy a novel too.

  2. Alas, I have not been much help lately. Sorry, the mild weather is death for the AC business………

@Free-Range Oyster: Isn’t that an imperial Russian eagle as your avatar?

  3. Per the book suggestion, you should write an RPG manual. Perhaps a campaign guide for a setting in which players act as candidates, staffers, and activists, and our political parties are not-so-secretly controlled by various factions from within the Mythos. Call it “Cthulhu for President!” or some such.

  4. qixlqatl,

That is the Imperial Eagle or Aquila, the seal of the Imperium of Man, a fictional empire in the Warhammer 40,000 game.

  5. Thanks Darkcloud. The Double headed eagle is pretty common in heraldry, but mostly associated with Byzantium, The Holy Roman Empire, and Russia (which continues to use it today). That particular example reminded me most of a Russian type, but on further research I see it isn’t…. it’s actually more like the Divisional standard of the 21st Waffen SS!!

  6. If the above linked bloggers want more money to flow towards them, I have a simple solution: Say something interesting. The rest should fall into place.
Then again, if you’re expecting cash windfalls from people who think everything should be free, I’m going to question your judgment in a mocking tone of voice.
