Hey, Dan Savage? This anti-bullying thing? You’re doing it wrong.

Dan Savage has been stewing in his hate for just a bit too long, apparently.

As many as[*] 100 high school students walked out of a national journalism conference after an anti-bullying speaker began cursing, attacked the Bible and reportedly called those who refused to listen to his rant “pansy asses.”

Because nothing says’ anti-bullying’ like calling people an epithet usually associated with a basic lack of masculinity. This is what we call a teachable moment, by the way: you see this guy?  Yeah, this guy has spent too long thinking about things that he hates, obsessing over things that he hates, and reveling in the things that he hates… so now he’s the thing that he hates.

Don’t be this guy.

PS: Yes, it is embarrassing that people like this are technically on my side when it comes to same-sex marriage.  Which is one major reason why SSM is close to the bottom of my priority list: I have better things to do with my time than spend it apologizing for uncouth fools.

[*Actual number open for interpretation.  And some frantic excuse making from the Usual Suspects, because it’s apparently OK to bully just a few people.]

  1. Did the school not know who they had hired? Seriously, Savage licks doorknobs. The guy is notorious. I am pro-SSM as well, but ranting at teenagers(w/bonus profanity)? How has no one lost their job over this?

  2. The licking of doorknobs was an actual event, not a metaphor. Savage had the flu, and was trying to sicken the staff of a congressman, I believe.
