I’d fundraise off of this (NSFW Teachable Moment)…

…except I’ll be blessed if I can think of anything that I particularly want or need at the moment. Well, maybe a PS3 or xBox, but that’s not really sustainable from this kind of hate mail.

Anybody got any helpful suggestions? Maybe a good book to read? If it’s on theΒ  Kindle, I probably can even pick it up without having to fundraise, so feel free.Β  The Kindle is currently fueling up a lot of my casual reading choices…

PS: The aforementioned teachable moment: this is not how you fight a RedState ban. This is, in fact, the exact opposite of how you fight a RedState ban. I mention this because every nine months or so somebody shows up who seems to think that this is how you fight a RedState ban, and I’ve gotten bored with just letting them stew in direct-to-spam.

Mr. Moe Lane, how do I learn to get my own stupid enemies and then subsequently monetize and benefit from their stupidity?

  • Moe_Lane says:

Tom: I’m no guru. If I was good I’d be getting them to give me their money directly. But that’s the Holy Grail, really.

Mmmmm . . . Flailing lefty tears are like M&M’s.

Actually, lourae, ironically this winner was putatively ours. IIRC, he got tossed over at RS when the site used the Derbyshire meltdown to settle all Family business.

Do the kids have any particular wishes right now? Perhaps they too can benefit πŸ™‚

How about a Megatron action figure that transforms into a gun? I vaguely remember you did a video trying to teach your eldest some important classical references and “Megatron turns into a gun, not a tank” should probably be up there with “Greedo shot first.”

Put it on the dining table, so its always at the ready. I’m sure she’ll understand.

  • Luke says:

countrydoc, you very nearly owed me a new keyboard.

But I thought Moe already had an XBox. (Mass Effect and Skyrim seemed to imply it pretty strongly.) If so, I can recommend a couple of lesser-known games that can easily be picked up on the cheap.

For ebooks, my kneejerk recommendation is for Larry Correia’s “Hard Magic”. All of his stuff is fun, but Hard Magic is a gritty dieselpunk supers with a side of air pirates. (You’ll have to go over to the Baen site to buy the ebook, though. Baen hates DRM, Amazon insists on it. They’re not playing very well together.)

Luke: nope, strictly a PC gamer. Oh, I have a Wii… but I also have two kids who are only now getting old enough to be trusted around one. πŸ™‚

  • Ogre polo shirts. I’m in for three.

Alpha Protocol is one that’s supported on PC as well: http://www.amazon.com/Alpha-Protocol-Pc/dp/B0016G88RO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1336698070&sr=8-1
The short version: It’s a spy RPG. Tight 3rd person perspective. Great story. Uneven gameplay.

I can give you a more detailed synopsis, but I don’t want to spam your blog with such a long tract without permission. (Or without understanding the mystery of inserting line breaks in this form.)

The polos tempt me. I’m sorta collecting polos now that I have an office to wear them to.

  • DanB says:

I would suggest the purchase of books by Terry Pratchett, but somehow, I don’t think you need that particular suggestion.

I will second “Hard Magic” by Larry Correia, followed by the rest of his books.

    Also, Naomi Novik’s “Temeraire” books.

There are ALWAYS more books to buy…

  • HeartbreakRidge says:

Neil, I hope you gave in and got the polos. The world needs more nerdy polos!
