Minus 4 hours and counting on the OGRE Kickstarter.

At this point, it’s ‘merely’ just an opportunity to score a good deal on all the multiple stretch goals that people have racked up already.  They’re not going to announce any more, so if you were holding out for the best result, there it is.  Anyway, thanks largely to my readership – which is a magnificently excellent readership* – and the various unlocking of funds I was able to score the Fourteen Pounds of Ogre, the Swag package, and the  T-Shirt saying “I made Steve Jackson work on Car Wars.”

I just now need to figure out where to put it.  The ‘permanent place on the dining room table’ that was suggested in comments?  Yeah.  That did not exactly fly.

*Don’t you wish that you had a readership like mine?  Well.  Join the VRWC, then.  And, seriously: if you are a Lefty lurker who doesn’t support your favorite liberal blogs, well, shame on you for being a freeloading cheapskate with entitlement issues.

  1. awesome! signed up for the SJG forums yet? 🙂

on a semi-related note of Steve Jackson trivia, the comments of backers told me that Howard M. Thompson, the original owner of Metagaming and holder of rights for The Fantasy Trip series (which holds a special place in my heart as my first RPG) is a “rabid” atheist activist in Georgetown, TX though he keeps a low profile.

    1. HbR: Down the road. They’re going to sell ’em, and I decided to not worry about anything that I could scrounge up the cash to buy later.

  2. TFT was an awesome, if a bit scattered, game. I had an illiterate wizard, as I recall. Even better — characters were so light-weight we had three players and party of 15…

  3. Moe, bought in also, when for the swag pack. Thanks again for finding things to buy and earn an eye roll from my wife. Now comes the question of how to teach my 6 y/o how to play.

  4. I feel your pain Moe. Apparently, my nightstand, the couch and the kitchen counter are not appropriate places to keep the books I have/am reading.

  5. When is the Car Wars starting? Spent way too much time playing that game, have lots of suggestions on improvements.

    1. Spegen: I am going to assume that they’re going to take at least a couple of months to prepare for that, if for no other reason than to give people a shot at replenishing their bank accounts. 🙂

  6. I would expect that the ‘secret’ forums for Car Wars planning would launch in a few months, and a Kickstarter not until early 2013 at the earliest, based on comments from SJ & Phil Reed.

  7. I asked on the forums. I got a direct reply that it was going to be a while before they got going on the Car Wars kickstarter. They want to have everything more or less lined up before launching that.

The planning forum will obviously open long before that, but no date has been set, as of yet.

  8. Howard M. Thompson “went back to state employment after Metagaming and is now retired. He is active in a local atheists group and occasionally pops up in the newspapers in his role as spokesman”, according to Kevin Hendryx in 2009. Googling for “”Howard Thompson” atheist” gets lots of hits.

Thompson was Not Happy with Jackson about TFT in 1980. I suspect that Jackson’s continuing success has been an ever-growing vexation to Thompson over the years since then.
