Silverlock is on the Kindle!

My wife – who is the most awesome wife EVER – emailed me to let me know that John Myers Myers’ Silverlock is on the Kindle.  If you’ve never heard of that book… you lucky so and so; that means that you get to look forward to reading it for the first time.  I envy you that sensation.

To give you an idea of precisely how neat this book is: when it came time to do the introduction for the 1979 edition, Poul Anderson, Larry Niven, and Jerry Pournelle were apparently so adamant about doing one that the book actually has introductions from all three.  I’ve had three copies and worn out two; and I think that I still have some Amazon gift certificate credit left, so if you’ll excuse me…

PS:  BUY THE BOOK.  IF ONLY FOR THE DEATH OF BOWIE GIZZARDSBANE.

Harsh that hearing for Houston the Raven: fools had enfeebled
The fortress at Bexar, leaving it lacking and looted the while
Foes were sweeping swift on his land, hell-bent to crush him.
That cunning old thane, though, did not despair at disaster’s onrushing;
Hardy with peril, he held it, perused it, reading each rune of it.
Reaching the facts, he thumbed through his thanes
Till he found the one whose guts and grey matter
Grafted most neatly. “Riders,” he rasped, “to race after Bowie!”
“Bowie,” he barked, when that bearcat of heroes
Bowed to his loved prince, “Bexar must be ours
Or else no-one must have it. So hightail it, burn leather!
Keep me that fort, or else take it and raze it.
Do what you can, or else do what you must.”

Yeah, that’s from memory (so there may be a word off). BUY THE DAMN BOOK.

    1. HbR: The embed works on my computer, but I added a link. 🙂 If anybody else is having trouble with that, just go ahead and find the book on Kindle and don’t worry about my cut.

  1. I read that so long ago I’d forgotten about it. Thanks for reviving happy memories!
