Debbie Wasserman Schultz for House Minority Leader?

Debbie Wasserman Schultz for House Minority Leader!

I wasn’t going to say anything about this rumor from the Shark Tank that Debbie Wasserman Schultz was scheduled to get the boot in November for failing to lead the DNC to anything except humiliation, largely because Debbie Wasserman Schultz is a GREAT DNC chair… for us.  I wanted to keep her at that job for just a bit longer; there are entire states that DWS could end up opening up for the GOP.  But then I saw this passage from the National Journal (via Hot Air):

Talk is that Wasserman Schultz will not be asked to serve another term at the DNC, regardless of whether she helps President Obama win a second term. Yet the native New Yorker could use that to her advantage, as she reportedly now has her eye on a House leadership post—perhaps even the highest.

If Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California decides to relinquish House Democrats’ top spot after November—a possibility oft-discussed in the cloakroom, hallways, and Capitol subway—the similarly polarizing Wasserman Schultz may make a play for her post.

…Wow.  That would do it, huh?  That would be worth getting Wasserman Schultz out of the DNC for.  DWS as House Minority Leader would be… quite close to unique.  The closest event that I can come up with to compare this to is… well, it’s like Jeff Davis had decided to replace Braxton Bragg as head of the Army of Tennessee with John Bell Hood without first giving Joseph Johnson a shot at saving the army first.

(pause)

OK, let me translate: this would be an unmitigated disaster for the Democratic party.  Debbie Wasserman Schultz has only one mode: attack.  Much worse for her: everybody else knows it.  Having her run a party whose major need right now is to get less confrontational and a whole lot more ‘just-plain-folks’ish would be contraindicated.  Which is why I want her to go for it, of course.

  1. No way this happens. Just no way. Which makes me cry a little inside, because I want to see it happen so badly I can taste it.

  2. It would be highly entertaining. Right up there with a Biden/Christie vice presidential debate. I guess I just need a third wish..

  3. The Dems have always confused offensiveness with effectiveness. I’m more than willing to let them do so.
