#rsrh Good thing that Obama supporter in Iowa didn’t have a knife, huh?

You know, the one who – according to multiple accountsbroke through the Secret Service cordon at today’s Paul Ryan rally at the Iowa State Fair, rushed the stage, then assaulted someone in the crowd on her way to jail.  Now, heckling is fine – and if you watch the video here, you’ll see why* – but if you’re sufficiently unhinged as to take a swing at somebody when they’re removing you from the stage, guess what?  They’re right to remove you from the stage.  By definition.

Now, I’m not going to make this a full-fledged snarl, but let me clue in Obama for America: you idiots dodged a bullet today.  Whoever it was that sent that woman out there – and let’s not pretend that OfA isn’t encouraging counter-protests – screwed up by winding up and setting loose a potentially dangerous obsessive.  Fire whichever particular idiot did it, review and revamp your entire procedure – or it will happen again.

You may not be so lucky next time.

*Short version: people that unhinged don’t move the needle for the side that they are putatively on.  Thankfully.

  1. I’m concerned — are we going to have to start having something akin to the bikers offering Honor Guard duty at all Ryan appearances? Clearly the Secret Service can’t handle the volume.

  2. This is ridiculous. Who was it that someone managed to rush their car and throw a sign in last election cycle? How come this keeps happening? Where’s security?

  3. Matt — are you thinking about Rand Paul? Some lunatic woman ran at him “trying to hand him something”, got blocked, ran at him AGAIN, and got blocked “with prejudice”. The lefties screeched and wailed that someone “stomped on her head”, as I recall some guy did put his foot on her head to hold her in place, but the others around him told him to back off *AND* ISTR he faced charges.
    .
As to why it keeps happening…

  4. Yeah. It was Rand Paul; I googled it when I got home. I also am thinking of all the glitterbombing and similar antics.

Look, I understand not wanting to have a cadre of security surrounding you every moment. But one of these days, it’s not going to be a prankster or just someone who wants to make a scene.

Security people need to be fired over this. If they’re Secret Service, double-y so. Because that’s a sort of event we can’t have happen to our elected leaders.

  5. Why is there an assumption that the Secret Service was there to protect Ryan? They are under the orders of the White House, and it cannot be said that for the last year or so they have given much evidence of being a professional organization.

    Subotai Bahadur

  6. The unhinged crank is associated with a group called “Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement”. They are a far left wing group funded by groups like the Waterkeeper Alliance, the McKnight Foundation, etc.

Their goals are antagonistic in nature and these types of tactics are not uncommon. They like to pull these types of stunts in a misguided attempt for publicity and headlines.

However, they have yet to accomplish a single one of their stated far left wing goals.

They gladly carry the water for politicians like Obama and the far left ilk like him.

  7. Moe:
No one will get fired from the Secret Service, as I’m reasonably certain none of the women rushing the stage were Colombian prostitutes looking for recompense.

  8. This is a part of the continuing saga of the descent of the Secret Service (along with the rest of the Federal law-enforcement apparatus- I’m looking at you, FBI Crime Lab). If you look (or remember), there’ve been scandals about how well the SS did their jobs going back (IIRC) to the first Bush admin, when a pair of SS agents left a laptop with VP Cheney’s full itenerary behind in the hotel they were staying in- and this was discovered because they had tried to solve a dispute with room service by waving their guns around. I’d say that this is what happens when you select for ‘discretion’ rather than for competence or character, but I haven’t seen a lot of any of the three from Justice or Treasury in a long time.

  9. Didn’t the President just say in his speech that folks of Iowa should go tell Ryan what they thought about the farm bill?

Guess she thought it was a “get in their face” kind of moment…

    Sheesh!
