Case in point: Operation: Maccabee.
It’s a war/board game* where you liberate Nazi concentration camps. Combat resolution apparently involves spinning a dreidel… into German soldiers. I’m mildly shocked that I’ve never heard of this before.
*It’s been a while since I’ve reread Steve Jackson’s seminal Game Design: Theory and Practice** (I should do something about that), but there is a difference; and, judging from the marketing material, this game is probably not a true wargame.
**Signed, by the way.
