This is probably going to be my only real comment on the sequester.

Well, two comments.  The first is that I agree with John Boehner: it sucks, but the alternative of tax hikes sucks more, so we’ll have to do it if the Democrats refuse to cut spending.  Full disclosure: this means that I am explicitly supporting a policy that, if implemented, will directly and immediately lower my household’s income*.  Which, again, sucks, but the alternative is worse.  I have kids.

Second comment: if the sequester is implemented – and to be implemented all John Boehner has to do is absolutely nothing – then the withdrawal symptoms that politicians (particularly Democratic ones) will exhibit afterwards will be EPIC.  They’re already starting to look like junkies trying to score a fix, frankly.

*Yeah, I’m trying to figure out how to ameliorate that problem myself.  Dammit, it’s not like recovering from a recession is actually hard; plenty of Democrats have managed the trick.

  1. Let. It. Burn.

On a related note: I plan to live just long enough to watch this country collapse under its own weight, then I will laugh until I can’t laugh no more.

  2. Historically, plenty of Democrats have been elected during a natural (i.e. non-governmental) economic upswing.

I caution against confusing this with Democrats “managing the trick” … Clinton was in the right place at the right time, nothing more.

    1. Yes, Cat. Clinton’s major contribution was being smart enough not to screw with the economy while it was doing its thing…

      1. Gingrich hardly left ol’ Bubba with an option .. and besides, he was having more fun screwing the interns.

        1. For all the grief,he gets Dick Morris convinced Clinton that stealing the credit was the smart political move if Clinton actually liked being President. Stephanapolous’s book actually agrees with that so it ain’t just Morris bragging.

  3. It is important for the Repukes to stay on message: the sequester was Obama’s idea. First he was for it, now he is against it and never once has he offered a serious alternative to it.

  4. The democrats obviously love poor people: they are out to create a nation populated by nothing else.
