Quick background here: essentially, Colorado Democrats have decided to respond to recent criminal mass murders by legislating bans on high-capacity magazines, banning concealed carry, taxing legitimate gun purchases, and requiring background checks before private transferal of firearms. And, oh, yes, Colorado Democrats also want to make gun manufacturers liable for crimes committed with those guns, but that’s scheduled for later… what’s that? How would any of this stop a crazy lunatic from mass murder? Oh, that’s easy: it won’t. But it will make a bunch of legislators with Ds after their names to feel a little less scared at night, which is apparently more important.
Anyway, I will give Democratic state Senator Evie Hudak this much: she at least had sufficient lingering human empathy to not want to make too much eye contact when she uncomfortably denigrated the testimony and feelings of a rape survivor who DARED insist that concealed carry might have stopped her rape.

I’m not giving Hudak very much slack at all, mind you: that was pretty filthy stuff that the state senator said. But, you know: the old white men who run the Colorado Democratic party have spoken, and it’s the job of women like Senator Hudak to hold down the fort. Or shoulders.

…and the response, which I found remarkably measured and even-toned, considering the provocation.
“Respectfully Senator, you weren’t there. You’re right, my parents equipped me to ensure that I would not be an easy victim and not be an easy target, they did everything they could to reduce the risk of me being raped. And, that’s all it did. It reduced the risk, it did not guarantee that. Furthermore, if I had been carrying concealed, he would have known I was carrying my weapon. And, I was there. I know without a doubt in my mind, at some point, I would have been able to stop my attack by using my firearm. He already had a weapon of his own, he didn’t need mine.”
*This is apparently a theme beloved of Colorado Democrats.
Ah yes, where the “What difference does it make” logic meets the “You don’t need it” line of argumentation. You didn’t know that your rights were abridgable by “need”? Just wait till they decide DC doesn’t need both the Post and the Times nor the nation both MSNBC.com and pesky bloggers like yourself.
And yet, Conservatives are engaging on a “War on Women” and we want them helpless.
But the dems will show their compassion by paying for the abortion after the rape. Never understood how libs could rail against the unfairness of the death penalty but can stand by and cheer for the murder of millions of innocent children

My tea party group has formed a second group that focuses on women’s issues. There a not many well known conservative groups that specifically address women’s issues. It isn’t about getting more food stamps, etc. We have taken some heat from some of our other members for forming this group, but there are some advantages to the change in identification.
I wish Colorado would form a conservative women’s group to target these women hating nutcases. Who clearly view a woman’s body a commodity for them to control.
“Statistics are not on your side.” Forgive me, Senator, but I thought that we wanted to do everything to prevent as much rape as we could. Let me grant your questionable premise (which I notice you didn’t back up with actual data), and just make up some numbers. Let’s say that for every 100 rapes, approximately 5 would be prevented by concealed weapons.

You look at that, and see 95 raped women and an unjustifiable risk. I look at that, and see 5 FEWER RAPED WOMEN…and also likely, 5 DEAD RAPISTS. Which might, you know, lead to fewer raped women down the road. I’m just saying.

For a member of the “party of women,” Senator Hudak, you sure suck at helping women. Or, you know, BEING ONE.
Her rapist actually went on to rape a couple of more co-eds and kill at least one that we know of.
The democrat party is the face of evil in our time–thoughtless, reflexive and banal.
Democrats like repeat rapists. I like dead rapists.
One woman’s rape is a tragedy. A million rapes are a statistic.
