Before we get started, let me be clear: the article that Melinda Henneberger wrote makes it clear that her personal answers to both questions were identical to mine, and probably had the same faint taste of vomit in the back of her mouth. But the Washington Post itself? …Yeah, I think that it’s hoping for a different answer for the second one.

Democrats idly spit on gun control advocates for 2014 and beyond.

Via JWF (and AoSHQ) comes this remarkably bald-faced gesture of contempt by Democrats towards gun control advocates.

Democratic leaders are wooing staunchly pro-gun candidates to run in pivotal Senate races at the same time they are discussing a strategy for bringing gun control legislation back up for debate.

The two candidates most mentioned in the Hill article above were former Governor Brian Schweitzer (for Montana) and former Representative Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (for South Dakota).  Both are supposedly firm gun rights advocates; neither will survive being flipped on the topic (neither would Mark Begich of Alaska and Mark Pryor of Arkansas, both of whom sensibly voted against Joe Manchin’s* background check amendment).  Of course, it’s an open question whether any of those four mentioned will survive even without being flipped on the topic, which is why the DSCC has zero intention of catering to fanatical gun-grabbers by allowing them to dictate ‘acceptable’ candidates.  This, of course, was known: what was perhaps unexpected was the way that nobody’s particularly trying to hide this political calculus. QotD, What’s The Exact Term For An EVIL Sensei? edition.

OK, some background: There’s a game called What’s Inside the Cube? – and it app… you know, if you know about it you don’t need the explanation, and if you don’t know about it you can probably just click the link.  The point is that apparently the people behind the game have released a feature where you can pay cash money to make it harder for everybody else to solve the puzzle.  And that’s happening, because it’s the Internet.  As Penny Arcade’s Checkpoint said it, succinctly:

“This really is [Peter] Molyneux’s magnum opus: the regimentation and monetization of griefing.”

You’d think I’d disapprove.  Well, no: I’ve been trying to figure out how to monetize Lefty trolls for years.  Stuff like this gives me hope.

Colorado gearing up to *jack* up cost of recreational marijuana? (and added evil question)

Oh, wow, man, total bummer:

A draft bill floating around the Capitol late this week suggests that a new ballot question on pot taxes should repeal recreational pot in the state constitution if voters don’t approve 15 percent excise taxes on retail pot and a new 15 percent marijuana sales tax. Those would be in addition to regular state and local sales taxes.

Bolding mine.  But, hey, that reminds me: if you can buy pot legally in Colorado, will that mean that companies can advertise it on Amazon.com?  As you can see here, Amazon already does third-party site advertising for booze; and, hey, the stuff is in fact legal in Colorado now.  Man, that’s going to give the US Postal Service fits…

CNN: Anthony Foxx to be next Secretary of Transportation.

Anonymous sources have Anthony Foxx being chosen to be the replacement for current Secretary Ray LaHood; I don’t particularly expect much from Foxx, but then I didn’t particularly expect much from LaHood, either, which makes it all good.  Foxx, for those who don’t remember, is the first-and-won’t-seek-a-second-term Mayor of Charlotte, NC; he’s apparently being ‘rewarded’ for the his work in hosting the 2012 Democratic convention that flipped the state back to full Republican control.  Note the use of scare quotes; I’m not exactly sure how this is a step up.
