#Obamacare watch: How the Democrats threw a pregnant woman off her insurance.

All in the name of “helping” her, of course.

Fullerton resident Jennifer Harris thought she had a great deal, paying $98 a month for an individual plan through Health Net Inc. She got a rude surprise this month when the company said it would cancel her policy at the end of this year. Her current plan does not conform with the new federal rules, which require more generous levels of coverage.

Now Harris, a self-employed lawyer, must shop for replacement insurance. The cheapest plan she has found will cost her $238 a month. She and her husband don’t qualify for federal premium subsidies because they earn too much money, about $80,000 a year combined.

“It doesn’t seem right to make the middle class pay so much more in order to give health insurance to everybody else,” said Harris, who is three months pregnant. “This increase is simply not affordable.”

This is in California, which means that Ms. Harris probably votes Democratic.  You know what?  It doesn’t matter.  It is precisely those people that the Republican party must stand up for, because it is absolutely true that the Democrats have not, and will not.  And that’s because those Democrats clearly think that it be better that any number of pregnant women have their premiums more than doubled, than the Democratic party admit that their leadership made a tragic mistake.

From the top, down.  Barack Obama, when you said “If you like your plan, you can keep it” – why didn’t you include the clause “Except for Jennifer Harris, of course”?  Too scared?

PS: Obviously, none of my readers here are so nyeh kulturny as to be indifferent to the troubles of a pregnant woman. In case any of those people wander in, however, let me note this: unharden your hearts. These people are having enough problems with a cruel and indifferent Democratic party; what they need right now is the Open Hand, not the Closed Fist.

  1. It sucks to be them.
But there’s danged little we can do about it. We’ve certainly tried, and at every turn, we’ve lost.

  2. nyeh kulturny? Sorry, when it comes to liberals my attitude is along the lines of “da, pashole ti”. They are, after all, the ones who voted for Obama.

    1. …and vilified conservatives, and spit on my values, and called me “racist” and “bigot”, and have supported politicians and policies that impoverish and de-humanize the masses. I’m thankful that liberals are paying more for this mess NOW as opposed to 10 years from now when they could just blame the next Republican president (or the past one) on their increased health insurance costs.

So, yeah, “da, pashlee vee” libs.

          1. I would contest this on the grounds of balsamic vinegar needs to be defined better by Munroe, except that I got completely sidetracked by the Wiki article on balsamic vinegar. I hadn’t realized that people fought over the proper way to make this stuff. 🙂

          2. Almost every subject has its’ partisans, hacks, and fanbois, Moe ..

As for “balsamic vinegar”, after reading the article, I will start looking for the better-quality stuff.

Finally, as for drawing flies, nothing seems to work quite as well as the excrement of Equus africanus asinus.

            1. Yeah, clearly we’ve all been making do with the commercially available balsamic. I’m curious about what the artisan stuff is like.

          3. My counterpoint to the usually brilliant xkcd is that balsamic vinegar isn’t really vinegar, in much the same way that root beer isn’t beer and ginger ale isn’t ale.

          4. Heh. Thank you, finrod, for proving my point – clearly, you are also a “language fanboi”.

With all due respect, Moe, poisoning the well only works if your audience hasn’t built up an immunity. But it’s your little corner of the Web here, not mine. So I’ll respect your wishes to avoid a conflict, and merely note in passing my belief that it’s a little more complicated than that.

  4. I honestly hope these libs get f-ed up so bad that they’ll never ever consider voting for Dems ever again.

    1. I am not without sympathy for the people who got fooled (again), but I am completely without any belief that they will learn from the experience………

    2. The Jimmy Carter model, midwestconservative?
      .
For that, we need an actual, competent, *conservative* candidate, not just talkers and those seeking to sell more books.
      .
Moe has pointed out several times that there may well be a few choices….
