@GovernorPerry: @BarackObama attempting to bully governors.

This was from a RGA panel(?), back in February:

“When you have governors, and we all compete against each other — we are the laboratories of innovation — and for the President of the United States to look Democrat and Republican governors in the eye and say, ‘I do not trust you to make decisions in your state about issues of education, about transportation infrastructure,’ — and that is really troubling,” he said.
Perry expressed his own fears regarding Environmental Protection Agency restrictions choking off America’s energy production and a possible reduction in his state’s national guard.

“As a matter of fact, he [Obama] said at that meeting, he said, ‘If I hear any of you pushing back, making statements about Washington spends too much money, you’ll hear from me,” he said, adding, “I’m highly offended by that.”

Note that the Guard cuts that Gov. Perry refers to are the proposed cuts to the National Guard that Barack Obama advocated last month – and that almost every state governor opposes. And I mean almost every state governor: this letter formally opposing the cuts was signed by every state governor except Colorado’s, Nebraska’s, and New York’s*. Why those three skipped it is unknown to me at this time.

What really raises the eyebrow, though, is Barack Obama’s reported belief that he can push back on state governors.  After all, the odds that somebody currently in the National Governors’ Association will be the next President approach unity – and they all know it.  They also know that Barack Obama has very little understanding of what governors do, how governors do it, and the limitations of the ability of DC to make a threat stick…

*The letter is being reported as being signed by every state governor because folks in the regular media counted the number of signatories (50) and didn’t bother to look at the names (the governors of Guam, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands also signed the letter).  I, on the other hand, know that if I don’t check stuff like this and I get it wrong, I will never hear the end of it. …I feel that this represents a suboptimal implementation of standards for professional behavior.
