Lucien Greaves, communications director of the Satanic Temple, says Cruz’s comments oversimplify the issue by trying to inject religion into the abortion debate. Although pro-abortion-rights protesters did indeed chant “Hail Satan” at a rally outside the Texas Capitol, it was to combat antiabortion protesters who were singing “Amazing Grace.”

PS: As a good general rule of thumb in American politics, when one side is singing “Amazing Grace” and the other side is chanting Hail Satan, be on the side that’s singing the hymn. …wait, I have to write this out?

Oh, let me add to that discussion. The last time the “Hail Satan” bit came up, we had a liberal who tried arguing how the name “Satan” means “accuser” and that’s why they were chanting it.
