The ‘Stand Still, Stay Silent’ webcomic.

This is very interesting: Stand Still, Stay Silent looks like it’s a post-post-apocalypse (plague?) setting, with a relatively uncommon setting (modern Nordic*) and a definite promise of Funky Weird Stuff.  It’s still within binge-reading territory, but apparently the comic updates every weekday, so start reading it fast.  So far I like it; I wonder if I’d like it more in book form, though.

Have bookmarked it, if that’s a consideration for anybody.

*I’d normally say ‘Scandinavian,’ but I had people point out to me recently that Finland (and maybe Iceland) aren’t quite part of that group.

  1. Scandinavian would have been fine as it is set in Norway. Though this does explain why the Ticket to Ride expansion is called Nordic Countries

    1. Really? I haven’t finished the prologue yet, but the cast listing has Finn siblings.

        1. The prologue also covers events in Denmark, Finnland, Sweden, and Iceland. Those are ancestors of the merry band of multinational misfits who are going to be exploring somewhere.

I’m holding you responsible for the space opera notion I’m mashing together from possibilities for this, gundam, and lovecraft.

  2. Oh, that means A Redtail’s Dream is finished. Or should I say Finnished?

Think Sigrun Larsen is a Dies The Fire reference?.

    Thanks.

      1. As a webcomic, it is pretty good. Solid characters, strong imagery, good writing, and a satisfying ending. I dunno about the collection. Given that you are less strict than I am about spending money, maybe so.

  3. Iceland isn’t Scandinavian anymore then Greenland, Yorkshire, Dublin, Kiev, Normandy, and wherever the heck they landed in Newfoundland.

I’m not sure the Finns consider themselves Scandinavian.

  4. Much of the story is set in Finland, and the author is a Finnish-Swedish author. Who’s lived in both countries. She gives details in regards to the following countries ( Iceland, wealthy, untouched by the “illness” and proud)
Norway, poor, uneducated but fiercely militaristic, fights trolls, happy people.
Denmark ( lives on small island, obsessed with reclaiming old documents, and Jutland ( Denmark proper) depressed due to the Illness)
Sweden fiercely proud, and militaristic, successfully reclaiming and cleansing old lands, irreligious ( like Denmark and unlike Iceland and Norway)
Finland, poor and uneducated, worships their own gods apart from Norway and Iceland.
I would probably be Danish in outlook ( obsessed with reclaiming lost territory from the Darkness etc.) it’s a rather depressing outlook of the Known world.
