    1. I would prefer Cali do so, then most of the NE (they can merge with Eastern Canadia*)…
      .
      *yes it’s spelled right 🙂

    2. Scotland “was bought and sold for English gold”.
      Florida was conquered.
      .
Trial by combat still has a strong place in our culture, though we do our best to ignore it.

  1. I’m getting sick of hearing that weak rationalization.
They don’t have to give up the Pound.
They have their own mint and already print their own currency.
After separation, if they want to call their currency the Scottish Pound and peg it to the UK Pound, there’s not a bloody thing England can do to stop them.

    1. I thought that line of argument was that Scotland wants to be in the EU, which means it would have to adopt the Euro as it would no longer be part of the arrangement with Great Britian. I suppose Scotland could try to negotiate a similar deal, but it’s my understanding that the EU isn’t open to that. So, the only way for an independent Scotland to keep the Pound would be to skip EU membership.

      1. Which they won’t do because the EU offers certain economic benefits that the SNP thinks they need. But Scotland on the Euro would be a disaster. Essentially Salmond wants to have his cake and eat it too.

  2. How is no one in the US is making the oil connection? Presumably, The Scots would take a good chunk of the North Sea reserves with them. It’s a better argument than “No blood for haggis!” which sounds more like an indie-folk-rock title…

    1. I don’t think that angle has been missed at all. It’s the only conceivable way they could fund a new Government given the tax base in Scotland.

      1. Even with the Oil reserves they won’t be able to fund the kind of government they want to build for a few things
        1) they already take more from the UK then they give
        2) without a stable currency their ability to borrow money and pay for it that way would be hampered.
        3) they now have to start spending money for their own military which would drain more money from their proposed welfare state. Or they could choose not to have a Defense force which would make them a massive Liability in Europe’s defenses against Radical Jihadists.
In short Scotland under the current SNP leadership lacks the means and the sense to be a independent nation in anything more then name.
