A rare open thread.

What do you folks want me to pontificate about? The Ebola thing is sucking out all the conversational oxygen in the room, honestly. I welcome suggestions.

  1. What happened to the PC game market? I haven’t played PC games since Civ 3, been all xbox since. Son is 8 and wants a game for the computer, all I see are heavy gamer games or extreme light games that are basically free on the ipad. Any suggestions?

    1. Minecraft is still a bit of a sensation these days, I think.

If you’re looking for older games you might look at Good Old Games http://www.gog.com/

If not, Steam is the place for newer games.

  2. The PC game market is still around and probably won’t ever die out totally. May I suggest Age of Mythology, comes with brief lessons on Mythology and the History of various unit types. Galactic Civilizations 1, mostly because the tech tree in GalCiv 2 goes on forever. Stronghold Crusader 1. Most of them should be freeware by now. All are compatible with current versions of Windows so you won’t have to load something like Dosbox to run them.

  3. Hmm, I’m guessing you’ve seen this: http://youtu.be/mEjqRLjP7Io (ht:instapundit)

You also hit a Patreon goal — well, according to an email I got anyway.

Do you read Richard Fernandez? He has a post up about what is going on in China, Hong Kong specifically. (http://pjmedia.com/richardfernandez/2014/09/29/dynasty/)

I like reading WRM over at The American Interest. Got to like somebody who has “ACA fail fractal” as a blog category (http://www.the-american-interest.com/blog/2014/09/30/under-the-aca-the-doctor-wont-see-you-now/)

Anyway, some stuff to read, if not comment on.
