Video/Audio recording bleg.

Basically: if I want to keep decent sound quality for my phone interviews I need to stop converting them into MP3 format. Unfortunately, I am not exactly a sound engineer, so I don’t know what the alternatives are. I want to mostly keep the audio files on this site, which gives me a single-digit MB limit per file (which I don’t really want to adjust); what format should I be using, and what editing software.

Also: I need something better than Movie Maker for my YT files. I know, I know: evergreen complaint.

  1. Actually, here is what I do: I have set up a second Skype account for my laptop and use it to record everything using Audacity. It has saved me hours in editing and no need to muck around with WAV files.

I also don’t get the hate over Window’s Movie Maker. Up until my laptop melted, I was spending a good chunk of time on Movie Maker and really getting into it. I was even making an AMV right up until my laptop melted. Movie Maker is a great program once you know the ends and outs. The laptop I am using now has Movie Maker and Media Player completely disabled (my local computer store said some computer companies do that when they sign deals with other software companies and since Microsoft doesn’t want to get slapped with another antitrust suit again, they go along with it), which sucks for me because I want to make a YouTube video of my show and I can’t right now. Be thankful you have it free.

    1. Audacity is a good[that is, free] program. If you’re looking for single-digit size, you’ll be hard pressed for quality though. MPEG-4(.MP4 or .M4A files) may be worth a try.
