Chinese activist Chen Guangcheng: actually, Hillary Clinton ultimately didn’t help me at all.

Well, this should be interesting:

Hillary Clinton’s account of one of her crowning moments as secretary of state has been flatly contradicted by a leading Chinese activist.

Chen Guangcheng, a blind lawyer who escaped house arrest and caused a diplomatic crisis between China and the United States by taking refuge in the American embassy in Beijing in 2012, accused the Obama administration and Clinton of “giving in” to Chinese negotiators.

So: who eventually got Chen Guangcheng out of his jam?  According to him, it was largely the Congressional Executive Commission on China: “In his book Chen singled out Chris Smith, the committee chairman, and several other congressional leaders, for proving to be “principled and fearless friends of the Chinese people” — in implicit contrast to Clinton and the White House.” There was a rather interesting telephone call on this:

…but I bet that most of you have never heard about any of this before And, hey! Notice that this is from a Canadian website?  There’s a reason for that, you know.  And it’s largely because Hillary Clinton is a Democrat, and Chris Smith is a Republican, and the media has its little ways.

PS: You will not even be remotely shocked to hear that Chen Guangcheng got in trouble in the first place because of his work against forced abortions.  Oops, sorry! I meant, ‘China’s one-child policy.’

I remember Chen Guangcheng. And anyone who knows about that call, also knows there was something wrong.

  • Antoninus Pius says:

what difference at this point does it make? sounds pretty all-purpose to me, Hillary.

I suddenly have a desire to horsewhip some folks.
(Note to the metaphorically-impaired: I do not own a whip, and have no plans to acquire one.)

I remain convinced that Hillary is a piñata .. she’s soaking up damage for a Dem candidate to be rushed out *just* before the convention. We get to beat on her, she breaks open and dumps candy-candidate .. and then retires to Senior Party Elder and Kingmaker status .. and Bill’s trips to pervy island go away.
The longer she remains the only contender, the more focused on “beating Hillary” the GOP apparatus becomes, and elephants don’t pivot all that good.

    • Moe_Lane says:

The ‘problem’ with that scenario is that all the other Democratic candidates are worse.

      • acat says:

        I agree, it is a ‘problem’ ..
I suspect the hope is to limit the amount of time the replacement spends in the spotlight, keeping the pancake makeup from melting .. the Dems will go from a torch-passing coronation to a full-on negative campaign against the GOP nominee ..
I don’t know if this will work, but .. I also don’t really see where the Dems have another viable path to hold the White House .. and the full-negative would set the stage for opposing the GOP and running against in 2018.
