American advisers to Viet… Iraq… expanded to 3,550.

I don’t know what’s more aggravating: that President Barack Obama thinks that a nickel-and-dime re-insertion of troops in Iraq is the smart play here, or that he’s had over a year to come out with a better idea and came up empty. I suppose that this can be one of those ’embrace the healing power of and’ situations. It’s not like we have much choice:

President Obama is deepening U.S. military involvement in Iraq as he searches for a “complete strategy” to train local fighters against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Obama will send as many as 450 military personnel to train and assist Iraqi soldiers and militia forces at Taqaddum military base in eastern Anbar province, part of a broader effort to retake the provincial capital of Ramadi.

I do know one thing, though. It’ll be a cold day in Hell before an American President ever uses Barack Obama in a meaningful foreign policy fashion.  Not much of a comfort, I know, but you have to work with what you have.

I’ll bet you thought Jimmy Carter was a stupid, meddlesome, obnoxious, wrong-headed, self-righteous piece of … work as an ex-president, didn’t you? Guess what! Obama will be an order of magnitude worse!

    1. Obama has one thing Carter never had .. truly fanatical fans. A peanut farmer just doesn’t command the level of zealotry Obama inspires.

Carter had .. many things .. Obama doesn’t have .. chief among them competence.
      .
If the next President is competent, i.e. is not a Clinton or a Bush, I would … recommend .. appointing him to some kind of humanitarian project where ol’ Barry can play the great golf courses of the world, give inspiring speeches, and a select group of underlings (selected *not* by Barry, mind) keep him fluffed and folded and happy while the work of improving local conditions unfolds.

  2. I wonder if we’ll ever here how the next president inherited Barack’s mess?
    Heh, I slay me.
