It is not *confirmed* that the OPM breach got every federal worker’s file.

It may be being reported that way

The largest union representing federal employees said it believes the hackers from China who breached a database containing employment information have access to the personal information of every federal worker.

In a letter sent Thursday to Katherine Archuleta, the federal personnel chief, J. David Cox, president of the American Federal of Government Employees, wrote that the union believes the criminals “are now in possession of all personnel data for every federal employee, every federal retiree and up to one million former federal employees.”

…and if I was investigating this I’d insist that we assume that all the data was compromised until we can determine otherwise. But – yes, it’s time for the Dread ‘But’ – we don’t actually know whether the worst-case scenario is the one that happened. And if you look at that letter carefully you’ll hopefully note that AFGE is not being shy about angling for recompense. And that’s the husband of a federal employee talking, mind you; I mean, sure, free lifetime credit monitoring sounds pretty nice, but I’d still like to get it confirmed first that my family’s data was actually ripped off…

  1. Can’t some enterprising hacker figure out where Obama’s college transcripts are? Should be worth a fortune.
