Today is another SCOTUS Day…

…and it’s probably going to be a sockeldanger of one.  Interestingly, Google asked me if I meant ‘sockleganger:’ when, curious, I answered ‘yes’ it then asked me if I meant ‘doppelganger.’ At which point I concluded that Google needed more coffee, which reminded me that I had a cup of the stuff cooling in the kitchen.

Anyway.  Gay marriage either today or Monday: I think that the SSM case should be 5-4 against finding a right to gay marriage in the Constitution, but I fully expect to be contradicted on that. Well, we’ll see that confirmed in a few hours.

  1. Sockeldanger. Looks like a portmanteau of “Sockdolager” and “doppleganger”. I have no idea what that may mean, but given recent SCOTUS events, it will probably be appropriate.

  2. I hear there’s already a bill in the House of Representatives to put the Supreme Court under Obamacare. Course, that bill should have been brought up and passed after the first bogus Obamacare decision, but better late than never.

  3. Hang on a second, Moe.

When you say “I think that the SSM case should be 5-4 against finding a right to gay marriage in the Constitution”, do you mean
    1) I’m pretty sure that’s how they’re going to rule, or
    2) That’s how I want them to rule, or
    3) I don’t think they’re going to find a reference to marriage, gay OR straight, in the Constitution?

      1. That bothers me, Moe. Especially since I know you are friends with gay people and wouldn’t go out of your way to say “Hey, I don’t think you should be allowed to get married.”

        1. …And there we see the problem conservative SSM supporters had, folks. Didn’t matter how many times we stated our opinion, the second we stepped out of lockstep people pop up to lecture us on our morality.

Erin, please don’t comment here for a couple of days. I’m very angry at you, and I don’t particularly want to talk to you right now, and when you do come back I don’t want you to talk to me about it.

  4. Yeah, they found a justification.

    Meh.
    .
Government’s claimed the right to define “marriage” for a long, long time .. Henry VIII for just one example .. this isn’t *new*.

      1. “If you have the mother-wit to figure out *how* to keep your church, you can keep your church.”
        .
I repeat a suggestion I’ve made before .. if you’re a church leader in north america, find some immigrants from eastern europe or southeast asia and compare notes… because most church leaders in north america don’t seem to have much in the way of wit.

  5. Two terrible, text-ignoring, logic-defying major decisions from the Supreme Court in as many days. And only three people on the court consistently interested in examining legal questions through a legal, not social, lens.
    .
Well, it was a nice little country we had here. Such a shame that something had to happen to it.

I’ll be on my seastead, once that becomes a thing.
