Heh. I guess I should mention that the trip is on the dime of the Make-a-Wish foundation, prior to my eldest undergoing a gnarly cardiac surgery.
Ah. Excellent hospitals in Chicago, I’ve .. spent more time in ’em than I want to mention, both for myself and for family.

Chicago does have a great children’s hospitals. 😉 My wife’s worked there, and is more than willing to testify.

But our daughter’s having her surgery in Philly. When her pediatric cardiologist tells me that there are two surgeons in the country who he’d trust to do this particular operation, I take it at face value.
If your eldest is up to it, Navy Pier and its’ jumbo-scale ferris wheel are .. low impact fun.

The Sears (only the tourists call it the Willis) Tower skydeck is worth seeing, on a clear day – and used to be free on rainy ones.

If you’re after dinner with a view, the Signature Room (located in one of the *other* skyscrapers, the John Hancock building) is supposed to be pretty hard to top, although I’ve never eaten there.
