  1. Did anyone see “The Specials” a lower budget similar film with T. H. Church and Rob Lowe? I’ve wondered if it was any good.

    1. It’s been, wow, maybe a decade since I last watched it but yeah, I’ve seen it. It’s got moments, but it’s mostly okay.

Keep in mind, while the characters in the film are actual supers, there’s even less action in the film than there was in Mystery Men. It’s basically a third tier super team deals with group issues and headaches. “Our merchandising sucks. My powers are kinda stupid. I’m a former villain. Does the rest of the team really trust me? Is my wife cheating on me? What’s the deal with the alien baby we adopted? My powers aren’t stupid. Should I ditch these losers and join a real team?” If that sounds interesting to you, you might want to give it a shot sometime. Or if you just want to see the superhero film James Gunn did before Guardians of the Galaxy.

Oh, and this is from the “Thomas Church is trying to get people to forget about Lowell on Wings” era, so he does a pretty good job acting-wise.

  2. Fun fact: “Pencil Head” was a cameo by Doug Jones, whom we usually only see on the big screen when he’s covered in full-body prosthetics.
