Every once in a while I’ll think, I wonder whatever happened to so-and-so, some movie or music star from the 40s or 50s.

    .

Too many times, the answer has been “died too young from a smoking related disease”. And sometimes, as with Warren Zevon or George Harrison, a star from not so long ago.

Actually, according to his Wikipedia article (yeah, yeah, I know), WZ’s cancer was asbestos related, so. Still, don’t smoke.

It’s certainly possible, and as we have fewer and fewer smokers, non-smoking related lung cancers will be a larger percentage of the total. And if you’ve had an asbestos exposure, your chance of getting the asbestos related cancer are much, much higher if you smoke.
