The Battletech Kickstarter.

Got this pointed out to me in comments by Constant Reader Matt_SE: damn, but there are a lot of Battletech fans out there. And they really want this video game:

This was not one of the games that I really played, although of course I’m familiar with the basics.  I find it particularly entertaining that the people doing the Kickstarter simply said ‘Battletech,’ under the confident expectation that they wouldn’t need to sell this puppy further. Given that they funded $250K in less than an hour and they are currently at $1.5 million with 28 days to go, this seems like a reasonably accurate prediction on their part.

In fact… let me get a piece of that.

That’s the starter set rulebox for the miniatures game. Not the videogame, but apparently they’re going to try to keep everything more or less canonical. Which is, of course, important.

  1. Turn based combat? That’s disappointing
    .
I would have preferred 1st or 3rd person real time combat

    1. BattleTech has always been turn based.
      .
Mechwarrior is the first person, real time variant.

  2. Did they ever licence or strip out the Macross mech designed they pinched back in the 80’s?

    1. They dropped the “Phoenix Hawk” (Veritech) and the myriad of “Destroid” designs for all Tech Readouts after 2750. I think that those designs were solely a Star League Era design and thus “lost” after the Fall and the exodus of the SLDF. I believe all Tech Readouts from 3025 forward no longer referenced them.

  3. If your looking for something more of an RPG style adventure game without a GM, my friend just launched a Kickstarter today for Folklore: the Affliction. Great game with cool minis

        1. Thats the one! I guess putting a link would have been the smart thing to do in the first place.
