I mentioned this earlier wrt Kevin McCarthy, but a reminder:

Now is an absolutely PERFECT time to release any personal revelations that are potentially embarrassing, but have a short half-life when it comes to public disclosure. By the time anybody notices, you can go I revealed that myself, you know.  I don’t see why we have to keep dredging up this stuff over and over and over again. Seriously! It can work like a charm.

PS: No, I don’t have a candidate for Speaker of the House in mind.

  1. S’pose there’s any truth that someone from DHS was stupid enough to update Wikipedia from the office?
    .
I mean, having been the guy who got to take firewall logs to the executives and say things like “Hey, maybe you shouldn’t be visiting this site during office hours .. because I’m supposed to send a report up to HR, that’s why…” I *know* people are stupid enough to visit sites they shouldn’t .. but actually using Wikipedia to spread stuff is .. I mean .. they gotta *know* Wiki *logs* where stuff comes from, amirite?

      1. It’s interesting to me that Redstate decided to memory hole the front page post that Erick did on the rumors. Hey Moe, or any of the other RS front page guys that read here, when y’all do that, you really should put something up. If y’all decided that writing about the rumor didn’t meet editorial standards, say that. If y’all got a cease and desist like Charles Johnson reportedly did, say that. Otherwise from the outside it looks like the Republican establishment told y’all to spike it, and that’s really not good. And it doesn’t hide anything, it’s been so widely reported now that I doubt anyone hasn’t heard the rumors at this point.

        1. I avoid caring about such things simply by no longer reading Red State. YMMV, of course.

  2. Shades of Ron Livingston… assumed next in line, wiped out just like that. So… who’s going to be the new Denny Hastert? It’s looking like Paul Ryan. I can live with that. Probably the best we can reasonably expect.

    1. The Coach Hastert reference is .. hopefully not *too* fitting .. hate to think Ryan’s a pervy, but it does seem to happen ..
      .
That said .. one of the other little effects of Boehner’s reign .. who, outside of his cadre, is there?
      .
Ryan’s at least got some semblance of nationwide exposure, thanks to Wafflin’ Willard…

      1. Hastert was my congressman when I was growing up in IL. There was not a whiff about that. He was just a high school teacher/coach from Yorkville. I hope there’s less to the tales than it seems, but I’m not a fool. Sad, just sad.

Ryan has also gotten in O’s face and shaken him up. Didn’t bring his A game to the VP debate, but I’d blame that mostly on his debate prep crew. I know he doesn’t want the job, but that’s kind of a point in his favor in the present environment…
