Why *do* kiddie porn users try to work for political campaigns, anyway?

Don’t these people understand that their mere existence will taint their candidates, once they’re caught? Here’s a case in point: “The Virginia campaign chairman for Democratic presidential candidate Martin O’Malley has been arrested on federal child pornography charges.” Obviously, Gov. O’Malley has nothing to do with this guy’s alleged crimes; but he’s still now got to spend valuable time apologizing and distancing himself from an alleged monster. Note that I’m not even going to make a joke here, because it would be unkind in a fashion that O’Malley didn’t really earn.

I just don’t get how those people think, I guess.

  1. Politics is the use of power.
Evil people are attracted to power.
Ethics get in the way of pandering expediency.
    Evil people don’t have them.

  2. Not to worry; Democrats *never* have to apologize for anything their own people do. Republicans, on the other hand must explain and apologize ad nauseum for what random people say whether or not that person even supports the GOP.

  3. The two basic factors here already speak to poor judgement. That they compound is only natural.

  4. If you spend some time thinking about it, it is not so surprising.
    .
If one learns how to really think after libido develops, one’s ethical thinking is shaped by one’s libido.

I was a fairly strong analyst well before puberty. I’d done my ethical foundations, and was fairly good at evaluating people in bulk. (I’m pretty bad at evaluating people individually.)
    .
It is clear that quite a lot of people are the other way around. If they ever learn to think at all, their ethics are shaped by their appetites. You can see where they flat out assume that they will act to satisfy their sexual drives. We are fortunate that so many of them can be satisfied by relatively safe, consensual and sane intercourse with adults.

(Sexualizing kids before they learn to see other people as people tends to produce more of this sort. Given how imprinting works, and the sort who would do that, this has a greater chance of being in combination with anti-social sexual preferences.)
    .
Someone who knew the difference between right and wrong, and who picked good, not evil, would get help controlling evil urges. They would not feed such appetites in secret.
    .
Someone who knowingly chooses evil would be a staffer, because they think they might be shielded by the powerful. Some politicians would like such a staffer, because they have a way to keep them loyal.
    .
Someone who buys into sexual liberation ‘theology’ may think that extremely vile hobbies are due to be protected in the near future.
    .
Someone who doesn’t think it is wrong would be a staffer, because they don’t realize how damaging it really is.
