Hey, Canadian elections tonight.

Haven’t really mentioned them because I don’t particularly have a feel for Canadian politics. I get the general impression that Stephen Harper’s in trouble, largely because Stephen Harper’s center-right party has been in charge for ten years or so and that’s a while to be in charge in parliamentary politics. I presume that a lot of the Left will be happy by the end of the night.

One other note: my wife told me that she read a story today about how Canadians were tired of the constant drumbeat of election news after a whole three weeks of it. She thought of me, and laughed. So did I, with no small amount of envy…

  1. Harper has been nice to have up there in Canada, will be sorry to see the Lefties take it over. Perhaps some solace can be gained from the election just held in Switzerland – understand the folks from the “right” held some sway. Seems like that migrant invasion isn’t working out too well for the European socialists.

  2. This morning a Canadian web cartoonist I follow retweeted a tweet where people were urged not to vote for Harper by John Oliver and Mike Myers. As a result, I’m really hoping Harper wins. Canadians, please do not take any advice, political or otherwise from Mike Meyers.

  3. Sad to see Harper go, awful that Libs now have a Majority. Still a lot of seats that will be picked up by Tories in the next election ( that Yukon seat in particular) and the NDP will probably have a resurgence out West again ( their old stomping grounds pre-2011)
I suspect Trudeau will like his old man make Quebec Separatists relevant again.
The question is where do Tories go now. Chris Alexander gone, MacKay gone ( though he can come back, but with difficulty since Atlantic provinces no longer have a single Tory MP)
I’m guessing Tories go with Kenney.
