In the great dying of 2016, I think the loss of Paul Kantner (with a nod to Signe Anderson) has hurt the most. It’s not like they have done anything for decades (there was always hope for David Bowie to release some wonderful new thing). But the Airplane was the first rock band whose music I really loved. The “worst of” album is still a favorite – even though my tastes has very much moved on.
The talk radio hosts of the day pitched a fit over White Rabbit, you know; there, at the inception of the culture war. A person with vision could see already that my generation was awful in ways that would make history – but we had _great_ music.
