Tweet of the Day, And I Don’t Even Watch Basketball edition.

But I feel for this Taurean Prince guy.

I also suspect that Mr. Prince may have actually gotten something out of his college education. Even if it’s just a talent for deadpan contempt. Because, really, that was a damned stupid question. Sometimes the other guys are just open for business.

  1. And they sank more free throws. Which are called ‘free’ because you are at a set distance with no one waving hands in your face, and you can just drop those into the basket.

Like every little kid has done out on the driveway at the hoop set over the garage.

If you hit your free throws you can win a game – and other stuff the coach of your youth basketball league team used to say.

    1. And then the cold reality that if the other team is bigger and stronger, or can hit 3s, you won’t actually get enough chances for free throws to matter settles in …

  2. Back in the 90’s, Bob Knight had a similar exchange with Lesley Visser after an NCAA tournament game:

Visser: “So how did you guys beat Temple today?”
Knight: “Well we scored more points than they did. I don’t know how you could possibly have missed that.”

Some would tell that like a joke, but Knight did so with his usual “boy-are-you-an-idiot” tone that he was so good at. Visser took it better than most would have.
